A very warm welcome to you both.

I have put up 2 links for you. There are many people on here with different respiratory conditions, but even those with the same condition have their own preferences for PEPs (gadgets with help with mucus clearance. A respiratory physiotherapist would help you with lung clearance and show you gadgets.

This is the Flutter. It is quite robust and easy to use once you get the hang of it and easy to clean. You can now get it on prescription. Can only be used when you are in an upright position.

This is the Acapella Choice - it is usually the acapella they would give you in hospital. If you decide to buy it make sure you ask about the VAT medical exemption, although I got one from Amazon which was about the same price inc VAT. This is the device I use most, primarily because it can be used when you are in any position, and as I have bronchiectasis and do postural draining, so it is useful I can use it when I am in any position. It is easy to use and has a resistance dial on the end, so you can make it easier to use if you have an infection. Easy to clean. I have found it is not as robust as the flutter - the fault with all the ones I have had is the little magnet thing inside seems to work loose. Saying that I wouldn't be without it.

jeanielea, cofdrop has answered for me! Welcome to you and the others who wonder how they are going to learn all this. it takes time, but you surely learn!

I have used the flutter device, which you have to start gently if you don't want to hurt your stomach muscles, as I experienced. The flutter comes on prescription by your consultant. It's a good device for using standing or sitting down and if you have a lot of mucus.

In teh meantime, you can also learn the Active Cycle of Breathing Technique which you use without any device at all. Sometimes, this is the only mucus producing exercise that you have to do.

Here's the video form You Tube (but ask your pulmonary nurse to show you):

Hope this helps.xx
