Acapella alternative

I ordered a replacement acapella mucus clearing device through the GP surgery a week ago, the pharmacist phoned me yesterday saying it isn’t in stock and maybe months before it comes back in stock if ever. She asked me if I knew of an alternative but I don’t, does anyone know of one please.

You’re very welcome, Evie. They cost £60-80 to buy so definitely get one prescribed if you can

I use an Aeribika which is much better than my old acapella. It was ready to collect from the pharmacy in a few days.

It seems my GP is reluctant to prescribe alternatives unless I have tried other pharmacies to see if they have it in stock, Boots are able to supply me with the acapella so It’s on order but I’m definitely going to give the other devices a try.

There is a new device that does the same, possibly better called teh Air Physio. It costs between £55-64 . You can get it on Amazon or direct through Air Physio.

Hiya, my Hubby has an Aerobika which he finds does the job well. Hope you manage to get a replacement xx

Hello Granny47. Just saw your post and I am fascinated. Can you tell me more about this device. I’ve never heard of this. What in particular is it for. I take 2 hours every morning to clear chest and throat mucous. My doctors aren’t interested even though I’ve been so very ill for over 2 years. If I could find something to atleast help one symptom it would be wonderful. Thank you.

It’s a device that helps to clear mucus, it has a rocker inside that vibrates when you breathe into it, which then gently vibrates the lungs to loosen the mucus to make it easier to bring up. You can watch a video on YouTube on how to use it. There are similar devices that have been mentioned on here which do the same kind of thing. The acapella is what I’m used to but I am thinking of trying the others. I also take Carbocisteine capsules which help to thin the mucus.

Thank you for that. I’ve just ordered one from Amazon. Wasn’t very expensive so hope it does the job. Kind regards.

I have an aerobika (which I bought online) and find it much better than my acapella which was very temperamental. You can get the aerobika on prescription in Uk. Hope you find something which works for you! 😊
