Hi Marion,

If you have plenty of fruit you probably get enough vit. C but I would look at vit D if you haven’t had much sunlight recently, but be careful because it can be serious to overdose on Vit D. You have to be careful taking all supplements because many you can overdose on. Also it is not only the intake of vitamins to look at, but also minerals, some of which are essential for your body’s ability to absorb the vitamins. Some people also need another element to absorb and use Iron. There are some very informative sites on this subject, but do be careful, I personally think it’s advisable to ask your GP before taking Anything extra like that.

However, 14 years ago, when I had heavy chemotherapy and my white blood cell count went dangerously low, a very old man told me to eat apricots, dried ones when fresh ones were out of season, which I did, cut them into pieces and. ate them like sweets, and my blood count went back up to acceptable level quite quickly., during which time I had no infections or illnesses. I like to think the apricots helped, at least they won’t do any harm. Our local Holland and Barrett employ people who are very knowledgeable about supplements but I don’t know if all their shops do, or we are just lucky. Good Luck ......PosyP x

Also my panic attacks and breathing have improved. Have to get up early to get all the supplements in lol. 😂 in a routine now so finding it all easy.

Hi Marion My immune system was shot also due to chemo and radiation. I take zinc magnesium b12 coenzyme q10. and vit d. 3000 mg. Even though I live in queensland but having numerous basil carcinomas cut out so going in the sun is a no no. So far I have not had a cold or flu for 4 years so something must doing the job. Hope this info might help you.

With so many antibiotics, have you looked into increasing your beneficial gut bacteria? I have been eating fermented vegetables and drinking water kefir lately and I think it is doing some good. Fermenting vegetables is really easy. They taste a bit like pickles and the water kefir is quite pleasant.

Do you make your own kefir?

Yes. There are lots of instructions on YouTube and you can buy the grains on e-bay. I make water kefir, because I do not want too much mucus forming milk. It is no miracle cure though, more one piece in a jigsaw. Keeping warm is the most important thing for me. Other people’s houses and AC the biggest dangers.

Thanks for your reply and the info. I would want to make the water kefir too. If I can ask another question, do you use special bottles like flip top bottles, or would any screw cap bottle be ok?

I stocked up on flip top bottles, when Lorina Sicilian lemonade was on special offer. I let my kefir ferment out before I bottle, so there isn’t a lot of fizz and I don’t fill them too full. You could try with screw tops if that is what you have. Open slowly and stay near the sink the first time.

My recipe, not very exact: 1 litre water, boiled and allowed to stand half a day to get rid of chlorine, 60 g organic golden sugar boiled in a little water before adding, 1/2-1lemon, pinch of bicarbonate and the kefir grains. I press the lemon lemon and add the juice when I bottle.

My twopennyworth Matteo5.

When you want to get serious and go beyond the odd diet addition plus popping vitamin and pill supplements then look up low inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods on the internet and consider whether you can make some more fundamental changes to your diet.

I can't be sure without dropping back to my old diet, but I think the fundamental changes I made to my diet have been a big contributory factor to the improvement in my bronchiectasis condition in the last two years. I also have 'secondary immunodeficiency' - whatever that is - and my immunologist seems to be pleased with my progress on that front having threatened me with daily plasma injections three years ago.

Not bragging - I can't quite stretch to eliminating beer, though I'm not an abuser, and things can change quickly in our world anyway! PS - I do pop some pills/supplements as well; curcumin and also cod liver oil for my osteoarthritic hip.
