Manuka Honey

Hi everyone,

So I keep getting recurring infections of Haemophilus Influenze (I have bronchiectasis) and have heard good things about Manuka Honey. Does anyone have any advice on which one I should take as they're loads and I don't know which one to choose! I will try anything to try and get rid of this bug.

Thanks,

Hollybobs

Hi Holly some people believe Manuka Honey helps but I don't so my advice is save your money. There was a programme on telly recently saying that no health benefits were found with it. But some people take it and swear by it so it your choice. I believe it is expensive though x

Hi hollybobs, click on the tag "honey" after your entry and you will get to some past discussions on the benefits (or lack of benefits) of Manuka honey. I think need to make sure that you get the type with a UMF factor stated to ensure it has the desired bioactivity (from memory I think 10+ is good to try). I have been thinking of getting it myself as I have also heard good things about it. I currently use Vit C and probiotics to build immunity. Take carexxx

Morning Hollybobs - I am a believer!!! My husband was very ill over a weekend and has ended his antibiotics I went off to the local supermarket and bought from Holland and Barret a jar about £25 - gave it to him a spoonful in hot water about every two hours and he was much better by the Monday. Now as soon as anyone in my house looks as if they are starting with a cold and sore throat I grab the manuka honey. One massive difference I have found that the Morrisons type costing £10 is just as effective. The bottom line is it wont do you any harm - honey has a long history of uses and personally I find it very useful. Actually off to buy another jar my little daughter woke up with a sore throat! Take good care, lots of love TAD xx

Thank you everyone :-) Jenss that was a good idea, thank you, i've had a little look and read some of the previous posts on this! I'm using vitamin c, fish oil and omega 3 but i'm still suffering with repeat infections which is why I was thinking of Manuka Honey. TADAW i'm so pleased that it seems to work for you and your family. I think I will definitely give it a go, it can't do any harm and if it helps improve things a little bit then that's great :-) x

Be careful, it was reported recently that there is more manuka honey being sold than being produced. This means there are a lot of jars of ordinary honey being sold illegaly as manuka honey and a lot of people are being ripped off.

I tried it for my broncicatasis, and it was a waste of money,my son tried it too, and I think its just another expensive con. It has since been proved to be not as effective as previously reported. xx

I can tell the difference when i miss a daily dose taken with ginger and lemon. Current one was half price at Amazon.x

May you need vit D3, I think us COPD'ers don't go outside enough to get the vitamin and it's essential for immune system. I take it in morning and in afternoon i take magnesium. One is helpful to the other, but can't be taken at the same time because they use the same receptors. I do take 25+ Manuka honey and find it helpful to keep psuedomonas at bay, it works for me. I use the NZ Health one. Good luck.

Hi holly bobs

Just to let you know, a recent consumer report on Manuka honey stated that the total amount of Manuka produced is very small and is unlikely that the honey sold as Manuka is actually pure, those tested were honey from various parts of Europe.

I have always been told that local honey from your local area such as farms are best although the benefits of honey.

I bought a jar of honey from a local market in Spain for €1 it was delicious and helped my hay fever symptoms.

At the end of the day it is personal choice, but I think the cost of Manuza is a real Con as people think it must be good if it cost so much

Thank you everyone for all your advice. Can anyone recommend anything else I should take to try and boost myself up? I take vitamin c with zinc once a day, and Omega 3/fish oil? Thanks
