not sure but my inclination is to mention that to doc?
i stopped smoking just over 4 weeks ago, and while i still struggle with not smoking, the health benefits are kicking in.
my cough and wheeze has almost gone, i have much more energy, and have managed to increase my work outs at the gym.
carlam
do you have emphysema?
apparently i do! i am currently disputing the diagnosis. i also have sarcoidosis
why are you disputing it? Is there a reason not to agree with diagnosis? I had a lot of chest pain and the dr told me I have it
well i have never had any problems with chest or breathing - despite being an over commited smoker for 40 + years until they found a lump in my lung, took out middle lobe and told me i had sarcoidosis and not lung cancer.
i have had 2 maybe 3 chest infections in the last 15 years, the latest being in december which lasted for 3 months and landed me up in hopsital for 3 nights
they told me i had moderate copd based on a set of spirometry done in march 2012 a month before i lost part of my lung and a set of results they did 2 days after i was admitted to hopsital so short of breath i couldnt speak in full sentences, and while still on antibiotics and prednisolin 40mg
i think it was a sarcoidosis flare up, but the docs were having none of it, and told me that moderate copd was the ONLY possible diagnosis, because i was a smoker.
am still as mad as h*ll with the docs and see my sarc doc on thursday
meanwhile back on the ranch, i am much much better and symptomless, despite those donkeys telling me that that the way i felt 3 weeks ago was the best i could hope for and should take long term inhalers.
told them forget the inhalers, not going to think about it till i see my consultant, and soooooooo glad i took that decision. if i hadnt i wouldnt have known that my improvement was due to chest infection clearing without the help of inhalers
anyway, the positive is that it was a wake up call to chuck my cigars, and still struggling with that, but getting there, and like i said, feeling so much better
Wow I am so glad that you are doing well. Did you change your diet to.
yes, eating much more healthy now - i need to loose at least 3 stone, but would be very happy with 2 stone. my downfall is that its 6pm anywhere in the world at any given time!!
Well done for quitting. For some people it can take a few months fo the lungs to totally clear. Hope you start to feel the benefits soon.
I quit 5 months ago and generally feel better than I have for about 10 years. No cough, no wheeze, no phlegm .
I have put on over a stone in weight but was probably a bit underweight before I quit.
Think someone on here once said that " you can reduce weight but you CAN'T REPAIR LUNG DAMAGE " Keep reminding myself of this whenever I fancy a cigarette.
Hi
I have emphysema and stopped smoking 14 weeks ago. It was because I stopped the emphysema was found. I felt like rubbish for the first 10 weeks or so. I feel ok now but I am not sue how much better I will feel. My skin is certainly much improved and my teeth are whiter even though my gums bled for weeks.
Oh by the way, I also had loads of wind and I am still suffering with constipation. They say it takes 3-9 months for breathing to improve
I felt truly hellish for about six months when I stopped. I seemed to catch everything that was going and felt dreadful. I felt that I should have been told what to expect because things were so bad that I was really tempted to start again.
Do keep going - you will get through it and you will be glad you persevered. Good luck.
Thank you Tetrazzini, I am so proud of you and yes I quit and will stay quit. lol I am so happy that you are doing great .
You all are such an inspiration ! thank you so much!
Time is a great healer.I stopped smoking Jan 2013 and am now feeling the benefits
,I have severe emphysema and can get exacerbations just by rushing to do something.Stay off the ciggies get some exercise and eat decent food and you will stop the deterioration or at least slow it down .Good luck.D.
