I was a smoker but gave up 21 years ago in 1993 When my 1st grandchild arrived.
My acid reflux started about 15 years ago around 1999.
I now have COPD , was diagnosed in May 2010 as moderate. Much to the surprise of the GP........and my shock horror.
I have so far had one bad cold / chest infection each year,
had 5 days of oral prednisolone twice, and keep antibiotics in the medicine cupboard .... just in case.
Yesterday I went for the yearly check up and my results were down on the fev.
I knew all was not well, but after 12 months of serious stress, builders dust this past week,
and not forgetting the acid reflux ( GERD) I was not surprised.
My nurse did say the overall ratios still kept me in the moderate grouping.
It took ages to find a suitable inhaler back in 2010, I seemed to be allergic to most of them, however I have been fine with Symbicort Turbohaler 200microgms strength.1 puff twice a day, and the Ventolin as & when.
But nurse insisted I use the Eklire Genuair 322 mcgms twice a day along with the Symbicort. So yesterday morning and at bed time I did.
This morning I awoke with almost no voice, a dry red throat, and a barking cough.............. I have coughed & coughed & coughed.
Its now mid afternoon & its eased off quite a lot thank goodness...but I'm weary.
(Apart from chest infections I do not have a cough.)
Have any other users of this inhaler experienced these problems. ???????
I do get some mucus as a result of the GERD but just a clearing of my throat is enough.
I'm sorry I can't offer you any advice on your particular problems but I'm sure someone will be along soon who will !
Hi I take the symbicort same as you and the blue ventolin as and when. I am moderate like you but take spiriva instead of the one you mentioned. Spiriva is more a long term maintenance med but you could ask your doctor to try that instead. I don't have any problems with that.
Don't know why they had to change your inhaler if you were fine on the other! The old saying "If it's not broke don't fix it "....springs to mind. !
I find it a bit worrying that nurses can change medication so easily. They are called "prescribing nurses "......There are 4 at our surgery and it's quite difficult to see a doctor as you are offered a nurse appointment first.
I would try to get your original inhaler re-instated. I too am just in at the lower end of "moderate "and take spiriva with no problem . Many others on this site also speak well of it. However we are all different and it may be one of those which didn't suit you back in 2010.
Hi and welcome to the site, I understand your shock being diagnosed with COPD I can't help on the inhaler I take a steroid inhaler and my blue one I would go back to the nurse asap and try and keep away from the flu its the flu that has knocked me back every time.
