i have emphysema i recently had scan 1 lung is chronic the other severe is it usual to have pain with this condition im getting quite bad

I've had very severe emphysema for 3 years since diagnosis. I've never had any pain in my lungs in those 3 years. I would talk to your doctor as you can or call the BLF Helpline.

hi libbysue, there are no nerve endings within lung tissue. I have severe emphysema and have only ever experienced pain from the pleura when its enflamed, the membrane enclosing each lung (as in pleurisy), and from intercostal muscle strain from coughing which can be quite severe. And of course there may be other reasons. As Puff says, best ask your GP or phone the blf helpline - click on red balloon at top right of page for contact details.

Good Morning, My husband has severe COPD and has had it for years. The only time he experiences pain is when he has an infection. Please get some advise and visit your gp. Or ring the helpline. One thing I have learned over the years is to deal with things quickly and get treatment. Take good care, TAD xxx

I' m severe I get a stabbing pain at the bottom of my lungs that sometimes moves round the back high temperature and vomiting when I have an infection. But I do always get the pain from coughing etc, I would ring your doctor.

Hi, I have severe emphysema, I have been in pain everyday for the last month, going for a scan today, and a Bronchoscopy tomorrow morning,as I have also been coughing up blood for quite a while, I know the lungs have no nerves, I was told the muscles can sometimes get inflamed,I would go and see your doctor,as he should be able to give you some pain relief,xxx

Hi Libbysue, I have very severe emph but only experience pain when I am dehydrated (usually in the middle of the night), I slowly drink a glass of water and it goes. I hope that helps. I will be interested to hear how get on. thinking of you, chinka x

hi chinka hope your ok i tried drinking water i didnt have a bad night at all but wont know if its helped or i just had gd night will try again tonight i do normally drink lots anyway as i have stoma with large output if its not 1 thing its another ha ha i really am grateful for your reply thankyou xx
