I cant tell you whether this will happen again, sambob, but what you need to do is to go and see your GP, and if possible take your wife with you, since she was with you. You certainly need a check up. Cant say what could cause it. Are you on any meds. I think you must be chest related since you are in this forum

See you are a newby so welcome to this forum.

very happy that ive found somewhere to come when i feel depressed, as others on here have it far worse than me and stay possitive.

my older brother who is 63 has had his lungs collapse twice now and they have glued them to his ribs! to keep them open? they have told us that if it happens again they will not be able to do anything for him!

i have watched him work hard all his life with never a day off for any reason and then end up tied to a machine frustrated.

ime the baby of our family "so he says" ime 53 but we never really grow up we just grow old.

ive only had copd for two years or thats when it was diagnosed! but i feel that now i have others to talk to and understand i may survive with some dignity.

someone posted about coughing in public places and being stared at as if they had the plague?

i attend my kids school plays and it happens to me a lot!

thanks to everyone on here who have shown me "i am not alone"

thankyou
cough syncope

(syncope = fainting}

a temporary loss of consciousness during coughing. The coughing increases the intrathoracic pressure enough to impede venous return, thereby interfering with normal blood flow to the brain.
Please go to the doctor you need it checking. My husband has has Copd about 7 years. This illness is so personal to each sufferer. My husband hasn't coughed until he has fainted - he does that with severe stomach ache!

I am so sorry to hear about your big brother I hope that he keeps as well as possible. I can relate to the coughing at school it is difficult in a school play!!!

Please let us know what the doc says and don't forget if you need more advise ring the helpline. Take good care with love TAD xx

Happened to me twice Sambob, a couple of years ago causing a few cuts and bruises. Told doctors, but no advice or action forthcoming. When I cough hard now my head reverberates like it is inside 'Big Ben' and sight momentarily crazes, but have not passed out since. I worries me a bit too as I live alone, especially risky when in the shower.

Welcome Sambob, this happened to me a few years ago, as it was a weekend my husband took me to a walk in clinic once I had told them what had happened I was sent straight to hospital by ambulance and treated for a chest infection. Pleased to say that it has never happened again, get it checked out as soon as you can just to be on the safe side Pat

Hi Sambob and welcome. My cousin smokes heavily and for the last 18 months has had several episodes of coughing and passing out. He's been wheezy and short of breath too. Antibiotics never shifted it.

A couple of months ago, they took a sputum sample from him and he had a particular lung infection. 3 tablets later and he said it's gone. He's over the moon. Make them check it out. xx
