i wonder if any one has or knows if the drug carbocisteine has made them sick i have been on it for about four years and started vomiting
i think thats the same as mucodyne, i had that some time ago in hospital, when i had a car accident, but it didnt make me feel sick, i got the liquid,
i would think if you have been on this 4 years and your being sick now, would warrant a visit to your g.p. jw
Hi kapre, Mucodine doesn't make me sick but oramorph (for cough) does. Are you on that at all? Popplewell
Hello, I am allergic to carbocysteine not with sickness. It causes my gums to soften, teeth move around and the tongue to swell. Very scary! now taking a phlegm loosener, Atrovent inhaler and it's working for me so can cough and expel without any strain. Hope this helps.

thanks every one i am seeing my nurse next monday so i will ask her about it thanks again and will let you know how againkapre
I would suspect the problem comes from elsewhere if you've already been on it for some time.
Good job you're seeing the medic though, best to be safe.
It does mention stomach problems in the bumf. I have a very sensitive stomach though but still tolerate it well - thank heavens, couldn't do without it. xx
Hi
Carbocistine is known to irritate the lining of the stomache so may have increased over time. I have to moderate my use of it. I also take omperazole to reduce stomache acid.
Caused by all the other medication. I believe that carbocistine is available in a liquid form which might be better for you speak to your doctor.Best wishes
I had Mucodyn (I also think this is the same)yes, it upsets the tummy! I was given another (foul but efficient) medicine called AcetylColiceistine. The drug is dispense in an ampoule to be inhaled via a nebuliser. the smell is like warmed up S**T but it does make you cough. After a few sessions with this, I really cough up a lot. My sputum was analysed and an appropriate drug was given. Then my doc sent me to the pulmonary nurse to be taught other techniques, not to have to inhale this awful stuff!
So you can ask for an alternative to your consultant, since it makes you sick. Don't be shy, it's your tummy not the consultant's!
I was prescribed Carbocisteine and like you it made me very sick everytime I took it so I stopped, I now drink twice the amount of fluids I was having and this appears to help with getting up "the nasties". Hope this helps.
thanks squady, that sounds just like me i take two twice a day i know when the consultant first put me on it, they had to half the dose sooo i think itis the problem thanks again
