I don't have asthma but get panic attacks. Now I have a cold my anxiety is going through the roof, do you think ventolin would help?

Cazbaz, sorry to hear about your problems. Firstly, you need to see your GP and tell him what you have said here. See your respiratory nurse, too. In Health Unlcoked there is an anxiety forum. Click on the green bar - 3 bars on the right. Click on communities and get the forum. It is possible the inhaler might help, but you need exercises to control your breathing. You could ask for pulmonary rehabilitation classes. Good luck x

Thanks. Been to doctor, and had a few counselling sessions.....good while I went but in the end thought she was a crutch and that wasn't helping me. I will go back to the doctors this week.

Went to doctors this eve, and he is sending me for pulmonary function tests at Fremantle hospital x thanks for everyone's kind messages x

Ventolin is not a treatment for anxiety. Please take Annie's advice and see a doctor.

Please see your Doctor - Ventolin is great for easing the breathing as a reliever but not great for anxiety and too much can cause you problems. Perhaps you could call the helpline, they maybe able to give you some practical advise. Take care, TAD xx

i suffer from panic and anxiety as a side effect of PTSD (its my partner who has the lung thing!) and my GP recently gave me beta blockers which have been amazingly good. i only take them when i need them rather than regularly and in fact knowing that i have them helps a lot to de-escalate anxiety before it gets to the panic stage.

You could try the Pursed Lip Breathing exercises, I find that way of controlling my breathing and panic very helpful... have a look on You tube for instructions. Breathe in through your nose gently and then out throught the mouth with pursed lips gently, repeat a few times.

I find deep breathing makes me worse, breathe gently, but we are all different!
