Would Be Nice If That Was Case ... But Other Factors Play A Part Like How Healthy Your Heat Is For 1 I Was Told By Hospital With Regard My Own Heart Problems If It Was Enlarged Or Diseased We Would Not Have Been Having These Conversations

But As To Your Question I Would Assume Yes Being That Answer ,,,, But There Are Things You Can Do To Delay It ....... Depending On Condition And Severity But Am Not Going Into All That

But I Prefer Most GP's Doc Analogies When Thay Say You Could Walk Out Of The Door And Get Hit By A Bus ..... So I Keep My Eye Out For Those Buses :)

Hope That Helps

I use oxygen when I exercise. Without it my sats drop from a norm of 92/93 to 84/85. The primary reason for taking oxygen then is to protect the other body organs rather than to help with the breathing. As we get slowly worse then we do use oxygen to help breathing.

It's the amount of oxygen in your blood as to whether you need to take oxygen, so not all people with c.o.p.d. will need to take oxygen so my g.p. told me, he said I should be able to make do with taking medication.

Ive been told the same as rick1. Just having copd doesn't mean you will automatically go onto oxygen. Lots of other factors have a bearing too.

As rick1 doc says not everyone with COPD will need oxygen, so not written in stone how each will progress, depends on a lot of things as daz says. People only get prescribed oxygen if their arteriel blood oxygen levels are consistently below the norm.

BLF helpline can advise you further about this if you are worried, but best not to worry as it may never happen ;)

thanks guys everyone always helpfull on this site and i know sometimes there will be diferant answers because has we all know everyones body is diferant.

This may sound stupid but i think if someone can go on for years without oxgen or having not to bad a time then so might i has i have done the main thing and thats giving up the smokes and i do exercise but just got to work on my diet has i do like a pint now and again and the odd burger or fish and chips but if i think i have done lots of calerys (spelling) then i go on the treadmill or for a walk and try to burn them off

I can never lose weight but i never put it on i seem to stay the same has i am a stone over weight so i can live with that for a while

You are doing all the right things music, just add to that, 'avoid all people who may be infected with a cold or flu virus' and 'get your annual flu shot'. Keep on doing what you do.

I think that is a very important point to make, BlakeyC.

I only ever go to see my doctor if it is absolutely necessary, and then never at 'General Surgery' times, insisting on an afternoon appointment when it is far less crowded with people full of viruses.

I was given home oxygen 2 weeks ago my sats are 98 the but drop fast on exercise or going up the stairs. I have found it helps but feel like a tethered dog.

You will get used to dragging the tube behind you. I use it 15 hrs a day so I have it on from about 6pm until 8am then I use the portable tank when I go out so that most of the day at home I can potter round without it on. The only problem I have when I am moving around is when one of the dogs sits on the tube lol :) Keep smiling

It's all relevant to the individual. I have very severe emphysema Stage 4 but I'm only on 1/2 ( Half ) L/min for 15 hours, as and when I can, compared to some who are less sever and are on 2 or 3 L/min. Some may never need it. Exercise, in my humble opinion, is the key. Also a positive outlook !

think your right there puff sometimes when i dont feel good i go and exercise and thats the last thing i want to do when feeling down with no energy but when i have done my excercise i feel much better has if there was nothing wrong with me, but its just makeing the effort when feeling tired

good luck
