70 years late, they deserve a medal but wont be getting one today which is pretty poor. Shame on ALL the governments since 1945.

I agree with this apart from the fact that they were ostracised by the public because they weren't in uniform.

Yes, 48,000 of them. Some must feel rather justified bitterness. I think it's so sad they didn't get a medal today, it would have meant so much more than a service

Not wishing to be pedantic, but in the name of historical accuracy, these conscripted mine workers were actually Bevin boys, named after the wartime minister of labour Ernest Bevin.

I misspelt his name. Apologies for that, however, I did go to school and I expect most people here are aware of who he is and what he did for the country.

I was half expecting there might be a few of them as members and expressed my opinion that they deserve a medal.
