Relvar

Hi everyone I wonder if anyone has experienced this.I started Relvar last Saturday-one puff in the morning. I rinsed my mouth and cleaned my teeth immediately afterwards. On Sunday I woke with a sore throat then a slight cough as the week went on. Yesterday I woke up and I could not speak. I can’t tell if it’s viral or if it’s caused by Relvar which I’ve continued to take this week. Does anyone have experience of this.I’m not sure whether to stop taking it or persevere. I’m going to email my consultant but can’t speak to anyone.

Hi Rosy days,

I have not experienced what you describe. Have now been on Relvar Ellipta 92/22 for a few years. I rinse my mouth (throat) very well after each application. To me, it sounds more like a viral infection or the common cold. I would not stop taking it at this stage. If you run a temperature thou, you might want to speak to a medic or an asthma nurse.

Take care!

Thanks for replying so quickly. Yes I think you might be right. I’ll keep taking it and see if these symptoms subside during the week.

I would speak with your consultant as soon as possible regarding this, but meanwhile, keep taking it. It might be that your inhaler technique needs adjusting slightly - I'm usually ok with my Relvar, but I find that sometimes, I don't seem to get the right angle when I'm inhaling the dose and it hits the back of my throat. That's when I end up with a croaky or vanishing voice! (I gargle as well as rinsing my mouth out, and this seems to help, so you might want to try gargling too)

Thank you.I’m a newbie so might not be getting it right.

I’m on Relvar 184/22 and always rinse / gargle and do teeth afterwards and so far haven’t had any problems with my throat.

It may be coincidence and you’ve caught a virus but keep taking the inhaler and contact your gp or consultant asap.

I think it might be a virus.I have been rinsing my mouth and cleaning my teeth after taking a puff but this morning I gargled with salt water too.My voice is definitely getting better but it’s been a weird experience.

Glad to hear it’s a bit better. If it doesn’t continue to improve then do let your gp or asthma nurse know.

I use relvar 92/22 but a while ago my cons put me on 184/22. After a few days on the higher dose I started coughing a lot more. I think it was the higher dose causing it so changed back.
