Ventolin
Hi, yes u can still get ventolin inhalers prescribed by ur gp!
Yes however, some gp practices are reluctant to prescibe it instead prescribing Salamol.
I read somewhere that you can buy it now in pharmacies.
Thank you I think will try and buy some then as the tiny little inhalers I have been given don’t work at all. Surgery said would get me a different one and was given exactly the same useless one again.
The small inhaler is salamol. Like ventolin, the drug it contains is salbutamol, but as I understand it the propellant is different & therefore it doesn’t take effect as quickly. Many people are fine with salamol, but just tell your gp it doesn’t work as well for you and therefore you’re having to use more of it to get the same effect. You should NOT have to buy ventolin. It’s not cheap, and if it’s the best inhaler to control your asthma the gp should be prescribing it. I haven’t had any problem getting ventolin from my surgery, so why should you x
Thank you but they just say not being supplied any more so no choice but to buy it as the small one just doesn’t work for me.
Hi I have been given Salamol in the past and found it wasn’t effective, I contacted the GP and explained and they have put me back on the Ventolin. I’d contact your surgery
Yes I get the original Ventolin but my asthma nurse sent an email to my doctor to make her aware that the new version made me cough and tasted awful.
They have told me can ‘t have it. You are lucky.
yes. I can’t get on with the cfc free sabutimol ones so I insist Cheers 😀
Yes you can but it's not easy. I had to beg, and explain how Salamol didn't work for me and actually made me worse.
You shouldn't be relying on salbutamol, are you on a preventative inhaler, maybe asked you GP/asthma nurse about a maintenance and deliver therapy, which would solve your problems if the salmon doesn't work as effectively.
Hi Wheezymum , did your GP tell you you can't rely on Salbutamol ?My consultant told me to always carry mine with me and to take it as required.
She didn't warn me about how often I take it .
I am on Trimbow and I'm only allowed two puffs of that twice a day but been told to use the Salbutamol as often as required
I assume the 'not relying on' means 'don't use salbutamol only to treat asthma', rather than 'don't use it when you need it'. It's dangerous to rely on reliever like salbutamol only with no preventative treatment.
You've obviously been given specific instructions Keep-Positive, but for most people with asthma they should use their reliever as needed but keep an eye on how often they use it. More than 2-3x in a week suggests asthma is poorly controlled and needs a visit to nurse/GP etc to discuss preventer medication as it may need tweaking or some additional treatment.
Yes , I still get it
If your on trimbow, you will need a salbutamol inhaler along side as a reliever medication.A lot of surgeries have switched to salamol, as it's seen as a 'greener' inhaler, it's still salbutamol, but the gas that delivers the medication has less HCF.
If your using a spacer and using it correctly, but finding it less effective, then the surgery can prescribe ventolin on request.
You can also get ventolin as a dry powder form in an accuhaler, so that would also like the box of a greener inhaler, bit it has less doses per device.
