Asthma Coloured Zones

I am trying to work out my red, yellow and green zones on my action plan. I know Green is above 80% of my PF best. Yellow is below 80% of my PF best, but it is 50% or 60% of my PF best for red. My old one says 60% but apps and Action plan on Asthma UK website says 50%. Does anyone know? my PF best currently is 470

My old one used to say 60 percent, then it changed to 50 percent. Now they have stopped giving me an action plan.

I just know that at below 50 percent, my inhalers become ineffective and I am thinking that I need outside help. I imagine, the point at which you are in proper trouble varies between people.

my last one is 2021 and it says under 60% for red zone, but i looked on asthma UK website and it says under 50%. I know things change all the time in the medical field all the time.

Although this isn't what you're asking, I wanted to check if your plan also has symptoms on it? If you're struggling with your asthma and needing more reliever than usual, don't wait for your peak flow to drop before seeking help.

Especially if your peak flow is above 50% or even 60% and you're struggling to talk, eat or sleep because of your breathing, don't hesitate to get medical help as soon as possible! Not everyone's peak flow will drop neatly in line with symptoms.

That may also help with your question about yellow vs red cutoffs. If you've previously dropped to that level, how did you feel at 60% vs 50%? If your peak flow doesn't tend to drop much when you have symptoms, it may be better to have it at 60%. This plan should be about your asthma and personalised to fit you - not some generic idea of asthma.

Do you have a helpful asthma nurse at the surgery who could talk you through it? Ideally a plan should be done together with an asthma nurse or GP. But I appreciate it can be hard to get an appointment and that asthma nurses vary in how knowledgeable and helpful they are.

You could also contact the helpline to ask: 0300 2225800 Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, message on WhatsApp 07999 377 775 or email at helpline@asthmaandlung.org.uk

Ahh I can see it already has a lot of guidance on it about what I've mentioned which is helpful.

I do go on how i feel but i still keep an eye on my pf as sometimes i feel okay but my pf is in the yellow. i just take an extra dose or increase my dose for a few days to see if that helps.
