Hi, the Respiratory consultant has asked me, by letter, to record my PF after using my preventer (Luforbec). I’m wondering how long to wait after using it to repeat my PF? Any ideas? Thanks.

peak flow after preventer
Hi,
Firstly, I am not a qualified asthma nurse or Doctor. I am only asthmatic and have been so for the last ten years (adult onset). When I first got my PF, I used it twice a day for ten days. I then had a fair understanding of how my inhaler (Seretide) and asthma worked. The first year of asthma, I used it a few times every week. Now I am testing my PF about once a month. Can add that my asthma has been well controlled for many years now. A few years ago, my Doctor changed the Seretide for Relvar Ellipta which is working equally well.
I hope this can be to some answer to your question. Take care!
Hi crille & thank you. I have been asthmatic for 10 years so am well used to recording my PF, however I’ve never been asked to record it post preventer inhaler. He’s asked me to do pre and post PF for 2 weeks and let him know the results. After which I think I will get an appt. My question was more about how long to wait after using the luforbec preventer as I don’t know how long it will take for any effect to register on my PF?
I had to do this. I did my pre as soon as I got up and my post at about 11am - mostly because it fitted in with my routine. I then had to record them on a line graph - one line for pre and another for post, on the same piece of paper if that makes sense. The idea was you can see at a glance the difference.
Just as a side note I got my best reading at between 1and 2 pm.
Thank you, that’s really interesting. I was planning to do them 30 mins later as that fits with work in the morning. I may do some extra on days off around lunchtime. Can I be cheeky and ask whether there was an improvement in your PF post preventer? And did the trial change any of your management?
Yes, there was a noteable difference and yes, it did change my management. I used to take 2. Fostair 200/6 morning and night. I was given a Fostair 100/6 to use in between up to 4 doses a day, depending on my peak flow. (I had to take my peak flow pre and post am and pm. My pm pre was quite low so I can check and add a shot off 100. Also I had to do this for a year - under the hospital- this through up times of year where my peak flow would start to slide, so I can add in extra doses and avoid Prednisone.)
Is there a number on the letter that you could ring to ask?
If not, try calling the helpline on 0300 2225800 as they would probably be able to advise.
I guess they want to see how much impact the clever has on you ? in hospital they wait 15-20 mins. I pray flow every morning and load onto my healthApp on may iPhone so I have a full record in case of any deterioration.
