iam a smoker for 55yrs about 6-8 a day worked as plumber with constant welding soldering on construction in uk, never had breathing problems until I might have coughed a lot on morning wake up, as you might expect, but after having injections for anti covid 3 times no booster, last chirstmas 2023, I was coughing got worse tried old blue inhaler well out of date went doctors gave new one 2 puff every so often in the night can’t breath waking up tired went doctors said ok chest X-ray, then chest scan blood test nothing, still can stop cough or get full breath, so given this white tube with red twist bottom to make a click called turbohaler symbicort 200/6 2 puffs morning 2 at night, nothing changed then into the 2nd week felt better did not wake up at night! Now into 2 months I have no problems whatsoever I breath very well no symptoms but must rinse mouth after use, I have to keep using for 3 months then doctor will probably reduce then stop I don’t know yet I must say they first tried steroids 6 smaller tablets per day for 5 days zero change for me, 👍

Welcome to the forumThere've been bad viruses causing cough and breathing prob this winter/spring,even in people without asthma or lung probs.im so pleased Yr inhalers are helping.sounds like you have had asthma( old inhaler).do use blue salbutakol if u need to as its the 'reliever'.rinsing mouth helps avoid oral thrush.great thay no probs on scan.the best thing to avoid future probs,a u probably know,is to not smoke,Yr choice obviously. Do u need protecting from soldering+welding fumes eg specialist mask,to protect Yr Airways? Just considerations for you,

This. Even when my asthma was well-controlled, welding (ozone?) and soldering were bad news. I now have a hood for soldering with air extraction. Re: welding, they make welding-specific cartridges for half-face respirators, or lighter-weight N25 masks.
Hi RABS. As you are responding well to your preventer inhaler it might be worth asking your GP about spirometry. This is a simple lung function test carried out in your GP’s surgery. It might throw some light on your breathing difficulties.
