Symbicort 200/6 SMART therapy

Hi,

have met brilliant respiratory specialist nurse today, and she mentioned that she loves this medication, and it might work well for me. I am to continue for now with seretide 250 and singulair, but I was wondering who has had experience of this therapy - I must admit it sounds good, I'm the sort of person who forgets to take my inhaler when I'm well. At the moment I'm taking it religiously and monitoring my peak flow carefully too as I've had a flare up that lasted ages. Just want some background so I can know whether to ask for it if what I'm on doesn't settle me properly.

Thanks

Hi :)

I take Symbicort 200/6 but I'v never heard of the SMART therapy! What is it?

I found symbicrot to work really well for me and I saw an improvement pretty much straight away. I moved from the middle of the countryside to the middle of the city for uni and got to the point where I couldn't walk up more than 1 floor of stairs so I changed from clenil to symbicort.

I'm assuming what I've got is what you're asking about since it has the same name! I'd definately recommend it. :)

A friend of mine is on the Symbicort SMART system and it works really well for her and she's better controlled than she used to be. She really likes just having the one inhaler. If you try it I hope it works as well for you.

I'm going to change from Seretide to Symbicort shortly in the hope that it gives me better control, but only as a preventor, I'll still be using ventolin as my reliever.

Hi,

I am on Symbicort SMART. My asthma flared up big time in May this year, and was not controlled by Clenil + Salbutamol, so my doctor tried Symbicort (initially just as a preventer, with Salbutamol as needed). I responded really well to it, so at my review in September, my asthma nurse put me onto SMART.

So now I just have the one inhaler - 2 puffs morning and night (tried dropping to 1, but that wasn't good!) and up to 8 puffs as required. It does mean that if I'm needing the extra puffs, I'm automatically getting increased steroid intake as well.

I have kept my ventolin with a spacer - I have to use this just before excercise, and I can also use it in an emergency (which I haven't had to use yet) if I don't have my Symbicort, or I am too bad to use a turbohaler.

I'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination....just someone for whom it seems to work....at the moment!!

Hi, I was recently put on Symbicort 200/6 but after about three weeks, I was really hoarse and croaky and that was after gargling and swilling my mouth out after each time I used it. Does anyone else have this problem? My GP is now trying me in Fostair Nexthaler..only just started in it but I don't think it's as good as Symbicort.
