Spiriva Respimat

Hi , About two months ago I started on Spriva Respimat . A few days ago I started with urinary frequency and back pain. So I had an appt. With my PCP and they checked my urine and it was neg. But they put me on Macrobid anyway because I do have a history of UTI’s . So I was wondering if anybody has experienced this side effect with Spiriva ? Thank you .

are you sure it’s from Spiriva?. I am using spiriva since almost 2 months now with 0 side effects.

I had to stop Spiriva because of repeated UTIs so I do think this could be a factor.

Hi . I have been on Spiriva Respimat for years now and can't say I relate any urinary tract infections to this. You do mention that you have a history of UTI's and only started Spiriva a few months ago. Maybe a further discussion with your GP might give you some answers? Hope you get some help soon - UTI's are miserable!!

Hi Jances No I haven’t, but doesn’t it say somewhere in the leaflet something about the possibility of it affecting the urinary system? Sorry I can’t be more specific, but I haven’t got a leaflet to check.

The patient leaflet for Spiriva does highlight the increased risk of UTI, so if you're already susceptible to them, all you can do is monitor their frequency and ask for another type of LAMA inhaler if necessary. Unfortunately, the family of LAMA inhalers come with a raft of potential side effects and sometimes it takes trial and error to find the one that suits you best.
