fed up 😢

hi everyone

I’ve been on pred 60mg for a month with a few hospital stays.

caught Covid for the first time on the ward the day before I came home and was blue lighted back to hospital 3 days later .

2 nights in and I had a stroke ( through Covid).

I was very lucky I had the clot buster within the hour .

my right hand and foot still feel heavy and tight but I have my speech and can walk , so grateful 🥹

im home and I’ve got pneumonia, I’m still on pred and co trimoxazole . Peak flow has dropped . I self nebuliser 4x a day .

My consultant wants me to go on injections to try and get me off pred .

Has anyone gone through anything like this ?

I feel so unwell 🤒.

Yes I put sputum in yesterday. I just want to get off pred . All my gums are receding and I’ve lost so much muscle on my legs and arms .

I will find out next week if I’ve been approved for biologics . Thank you ☺️

I have been on Xolair (one of the biologics) since 2016 and it has been a life changer. It did take more than 6 months to show improvement on me though. Since then, I have only had yearly flares of my asthma requiring prednisone and my last 2 courses of prednisone were short bursts.... 5 days then 3 days at only 30 mg! And that was Dec of 2021 (knock on wood! 🙏🍀🤞🍀🙏)

I hope you get approval AND they give it a chance to work on your super inflammation.

sending hugs Have been on prednisolone for 19 years and have the associated side effects have also had covid a stroke and a bone lesion. Its hard and you will have both better days and days where you feel very low.Its taken me 2 years to get back to something like normality for me.

Listen to the advice your consultant gives you - new treatments are being developed all the time .A good medical team supporting you is priceless.

This forum is so supportive you have so many folk supporting you.

wishing you well.

I was on high dose longterm pred too, caused my longterm issues

Adrenal suppression

Diabetes

Low thyroid

Low testosterone

Highly BP

I’m rarely on pre now as I’m biologicals which have all but relieved most of my asthma

Been on biologics for 8 years now

I'm so sorry you have been through all of this and that you are not quite well yet though it sounds as though you are on the mend. I get so frustrated when I'm recovering but it does take time and patience. If the injections you are waiting for are biologics, I'm starting them soon. I've heard positive things so fingers crossed for you and me!

I have found that relaxing and imagining good things helps me. Everyone has a different way of relaxing but sitting quietly and comfortably in a warm quiet room helps my breathing because it relaxes my shoulders, throat and neck as well as my chest. It's not until I I do this do I realise how tense these muscles get because of asthma.

I hope you feel better soon and the meds get to grips with the infection and the injections help with the breathing. Best wishes.
