I've been offered a covid jab as I work with vulnerable people but I'm currently experiencing a real flare up of my asthma. Has anyone else had this situation and gone ahead with the jab? Did it make it worse? I'm thinking to postpone the vaccination.
Covid vaccine: I've been offered a... - Asthma Community ...
Covid vaccine
I had my vaccination for covid and flu while on steriods and antibiotics. I told the nurse that was giving me my jab and she said it was ok. (No issues afterwards ( just arm a bit sore)
Do you normally find vaccines make you worse? If you do, it might be worth delaying until you are better so that you are not adding an extra trigger into the mix. I always get a flareup with pretty much any vaccine (and the Covid one was the worst), so I'm always reluctant to have any kind of jab when things are already unsettled.
Not really but my asthma has really stepped up since I had the actual covid virus in Nov last year which makes me concerned.
If you didn't react to your first round of Covid vaccines, then you'll probably be fine, and it's certainly worth getting asap if Covid has a real impact on your asthma. If you are concerned, I would suggest either speaking to whoever is doing the vaccination in advance or else maybe calling the Asthma UK helpline to chat through any concerns.
I react badly to any and every vaccine and my first Covid vaccine was the worst ever, but the subsequent ones weren't nearly as bad. So hopefully if you haven't had an issue with past ones, this one won't make you any worse.
My asthma has flared badly lately but if I finally get the flu and Covid vax will not postpone as have to wait so long for home visit. Have not heard of and can't see why vax would make asthma worse even if you get side effects but maybe ask gp etc? Presume it's compulsory for your work and that vax needs to be continuous to keep up anti body levels?
It's not compulsory for my work I just get offered it due to my work and I'd like to take it up.... but just don't want to exacerbate an already bad asthma flare up! Yeah maybe I'll just ring ahead for advice, good idea, thank you.
@fraid I don't know why vaccines make my asthma worse, but they definitely do (I mean in the short-term, not permanently!), and I know I'm not the only one! As stress is a trigger, I assume my lungs are responding to the stress my immune system is under. I'm very grateful for the vaccines that are available - and the side effects are nowhere near as bad as the actual illness being vaccinated against - but I do try to make sure that, where possible, my asthma is as good as it can be before I have one, so that I'm not adding a big stressor when my lungs are already struggling.
I’ve been having poor breathing for some months and recently had both my flu and Covid jabs with no problems at all - was relieved to have them as I was worried about catching the new Covid
I had a covid booster and felt ill the next day, but it didn't affect my asthma at all. Just horrible headache, nausea and fever.
They wont do it if your not feeling well.Had my flu and covid both together last week with no issues. I had an asthma flare the weeks previously and was still on steroids but was feeling ok.
Hope this helps 🤗
Actually the opposite for me. My breathing got better.
