PeakFlow Readings

My peak flow readings never seem to change and I’m a little confused.

My last one recorded at my GP surgery was 290, My dr wanted me to monitor my peak flow readings. There currently between 350-250.

I currently have a Salbutamol inhaler a Fostair Inhaler and Montelukast daily. I’m not noticing much difference but not sure what my peak flow reading should be at when I’m well when it has constantly been between 250-350 for a fair few years now.

I think this would be best discussed with your GP or asthma specialist (if applicable). To me, 250 to 350 is not such a small range, but it could depend on the pattern. For example, if you are measuring 3 times in a row and readings always range between 250 to 350 at a given time, then I would suggest checking with your care team about what could be going on (maybe try another device? or maybe that is indeed your normal?). If however, this range corresponds to how it varies within the day, or between days or weeks, then this could be relevant information about your asthma. If 350 is your personal best, then your GP may suggest a plan that takes that into account. Or do you already have an action plan that tells you what to do according to the readings?

Nope I don’t, my readings have not been measured since 2018 through my GP, it’s only because this last year & a half my asthma symptoms have gotten worse that my GP wants me to monitor them. In 2018 the last recorded was 290, it does seem to always Range between 250-350 when I do it 3 times!

A difference between 250 and 350 is huge and it may be that it is to do with technique?? Would be worth showing asthma nurse how you test to ensure is correct.

They do say you should only note the best “blow” out of the three but still seems a wide range. Mine can differ but not to such an extent.

I agree with Bevvy. 250 to 350 in consecutive measures seem high, I would have it checked.
