Hiya
Trelegy works for me!
I have Difficult to control asthma and now COPD prior to using Trelegy I used Fostair and Timo (something) with less good effect
I would have thought a week is not really long enough to see if it works especially if you changed when not v well
Perhaps discuss with your asthma nurse or Asthma uk helpline
But for me it works…
Good luck!
It depends on what dose of Fostair you were on before the switch, I believe. If you were on a high dose of Fostair (say 200/6 x 4 pd) then you're switching to a medium dose of a different steroid and long acting bronchodilator in Trelegy. Plus the LABA is different to Spiriva.
Trimbow is the other triple inhaler and is equivalent to Fostair 100/6 x 4 doses pd but again has a different LABA to Spiriva.
Because these triple inhalers contain LABA meds, it's not possible to increase the prescribed dose during a flare up, as you would with say Fostair or Symbicort etc.
I was on a high maintenance dose of Symbicort when my consultant decided to switch me to Trelegy, suggesting it was exactly the same as my Symbicort plus Eklira Genuair. It was only when I picked it up from the pharmacy that I realised that it was completely different in terms of inhaled meds and doseage. I rang the hospital and explained I wasn't happy with the switch and made an appointment with my asthma nurse. She was really very good and listened to my concerns. Fortunately, the consultant had signed me off so my asthma nurse was able to change my prescription to Fostair, and it was a very good decision for me.
Details of the equivalent meds to Trelegy and Trimbow can be found here: ggcmedicines.org.uk/blog/me...
Hi. Thank you. I was on fostair 209/6 2 puffs twice a day. Thank you again
So basically you've gone from a high dose inhaled steroids to a medium dose. I would be having a chat with the prescribing doctor in order to discuss your concerns about the change, especially if things were controlled while on Fostair and Spiriva. I assume the doctor arranged for a review appointment or phone call in order to check on your progress etc? It's good to follow up on medication changes about 8 weeks into the new regime just to review how things are going and to make any changes needed. However, if you start to struggle I wouldn't wait 8 weeks.
A week really isn’t long enough to say if an inhaler is going to be helpful/work for you. Can take a good 8 weeks to be effective.
