Has anybody used Trelegy Ellipta and if so what do you think? I’ve been on it for a year now with good results, but my sister says her specialist doesn’t like it. It can cause problems?!

The problem with these triple inhalers may be you can't increase the doseage for a flare up as they contain a LAMA aswell as the steroid and long acting bronchodilator. I've ditched my LAMA inhaler as the first one (Spiriva) gave me high blood pressure after a few months and the second (Eklira Genuair) gave me glaucoma after a couple of years. So your consultant maybe thinking about the limitations of the inhaler if you hit a rough patch and need to up your inhaled steroids or he/she maybe thinking about the side effects of the LAMA medication. Not everyone experiences side effects, I've just been unlucky.

One thing they did was say that if I need a rescue puffer I should use Ventolin. And that has worked fine for many months now. But of course every winter is a chance for things to change. So if that happens I will go back and see the dr.

I’ve been on Ventolin for decades. Since they were first able to be prescribed I think.

I couldn’t get by without them

Hi Norsca

I have been on Trelegy for several years with no side effects

And it has been very helpful

I would say it has transformed my care

Of course I still have COPD/Asthma but the asthma is far better regulated

Also use ventolin as needed and Carbocisteine and Montelukast

So a big supporter of trekegy

Good luck

Besides Ventolin I use Trelegy Ellipta and Montelukast and I think they work ok.

Hi Norsca I just noticed your post. How are you finding Trelegy now? I’ve had Trelegy prescribed recently.

Hi Moon-calm, I’ve been having a bit of email probs so I do hope you receive my reply here. Would you mind letting me know if you have received this email and can open it? Re Trelegy. At first I thought it was brilliant. Then my sister looked it up and found all sorts of negative side effects. The one which scared me was impact on bone density as I have been on 100mg of Thyroxine daily ever since thyroid surgery years ago. And that can impact as well. So I asked the dr if I could use Trelegy every second day. But I don’t think that works as well. I do yoga and swim and do various exercises intermittently and eat a good diet though I do like my sweets! I could be 5kg lighter to be best weight for height and I'm trying to look after myself. I’m 77 and will be 78 in October. I think Trelegy is good but I am worried about possible long term outcomes. What do you think?

Thank you Norsca for your reply I spoke to an asthma educator today and she was reassuring. As I was tolerating Breo really well she felt the step up to Trelegy would be fine to help control the cough that’s proving a little stubborn to shift. The bronchodilator is working so far.

Is your dr ok about you using it every day? Has she flagged any possible downside?

Dr prescribed it once a day as like Breo, these are daily single dose inhalers. I’m extra careful about rinsing my mouth and throat afterwards. I’m also going to have more regular eye checkups. From what people have said on here it’s a good medication in and of itself. I will give it a couple of months to work and then see.

Thank you for your help
