Eosinophilic Asthma and COVID vaccine (Oxford)

Hi everyone,

I've been contacted this afternoon by my GP for a vaccine tomorrow. I'm due to get the Oxford vaccine, but am not sure if I can get this one with Eosinophilic Asthma? ..I'm also a type 1 diabetic. I'm waiting for my (very busy) consultant to get back to me, which is doubtful by tomorrow afternoon. If I don't hear from her then I think I'll cancel my appointment and rearrange, but I just wondered if anyone else knew anything/had any input? Thanks in advance!

The type of asthma people have isn't a factor in which jab they can have.

I have eosinophilic (and allergic) asthma and had Oxford. My SIL has type 1 diabetes and has also had the Oxford jab

I didn’t feel the need to ask them. When I told my asthma nurse a week after (physical appt to get my steroid injection) she was happy I got one and asked which I had for their records. Then she commented that she’s hearing more and more of the MAB patients getting first dose (with a celebratory jiggle) but all different brands. The only one they’ve had any concern with is the Pfizer on their really allergic (anaphylactic) patients, and even they have been fine on that.

Ah thank you for the information.

You know, I thought I'd be ecstatic about getting my jab finally, but I'm more anxious than anything else....

Also early Jan spoke to tertiary con for other things. Mentioned I was having to work f2f (self employed and live alone. I can’t afford to shield any more). He just commented that he hoped I’d get access to a jab (any jab) asap

The only patients that need to flag up their allergies are those who have experienced anaphylactic reactions in the past and carry an epipen.

Hi ... I have severe asthma, I’m on continuous steroids as well as biological treatments and I had my vaccine , no issues at all ...

There isn’t a reason i can think of that would mean you can’t have the vaccine however be reassured that before you are given it the nurses will have a list of questions to ask you as this for them will filter out people that shouldn’t have it for medical reasons . So rest assured you will be in safe hands

I had Pfizer last week and afraid there isn't a choice as its what the GPS are provided with and hearing about the Oxford jab yesterday on the news Pfizer would be my choice

Thanks for your replies.

I had the jab. Very sore arm and feeling achy (and very tight chest) this morning so far.

For mmarcevanss... Hi, I also have eosinophilic asthma and was concerned about taking the vaccine. I am on the monoclonal antibody Nucala (one injection a month) which has my asthma under control. I had my 2nd Pfizer vaccine two weeks ago and I did not have any adverse reaction.... just fatigue which I did get with both shots. I made sure to space the Pfizer and E asthma vaccine at least 4 or 5 days apart as I felt it isn't wise to take two vaccines same day or really close together. Everything that I read assured me that there should be no hesitation regarding asthma and taking the vaccine. I would get asap because that and the mask, distancing etc. is really the only protection we have. Good luck
