Covid vaccine and asthma
Hi, I had mine on Sunday & apart from a tendency to a headache, I've just been tired. Today I feel OK but it's very easy to nod off. I expect to be back in full working order tomorrow! My asthma has not been affected at all. Good luck & please don't worry. I'm 71.
As long as you haven't had an anaphylactic reaction (and had to use an EpiPen for it) to anything ever then you should be fine. Run of the mill allergies like dust and so on are not an issue with the vaccines. Likewise asthma shouldn't be affected by having it. People will all have had different side effects - some seem to have felt rough for a couple of days, others have been ok. I felt tired and had a sore arm but ok other than that really. On day 3 I felt really weak bit I was busier than I can reliably manage so it could also have been that.
Good luck with yours, hope all goes smoothly.
I had the Pfizer jab 25th Jan I had no ill effects arm was a little tender that's all.
I am 66 have allergies to Penicillin, Septrin, Doxcycycline, Flucloxacillin, Mushrooms, Quorn.
I am severely asthmatic, I had a heart attack Aug 2019 and I'm on Mepolizumab, Fostair 200/6, Montelukast, Spiriva, Esomeprazole, Candesartan, Allopurinol, Co-Amilofruse, Aspirin, Isosorbide Mononitrate, Doxazosin, Carbocisteine, Atorvastatin
Hi, it was great to hear someone else very similar to myself having a Phizer vaccination, whilst allergic to many things..some very serious..I too am a severe asthmatic , on long term steroids, home oxygen when required. I do have also have an epipen. They told me due to the ingredients in Astra Zeneka coupled with a clot of the brain 8 years ago..which was quickly sorted safely with warfarin, the Phizer was safer for me. I naturally thought due to my allergies and state of my lungs I would have the Astra..but I had Phizer..1st jab this week, and im fine at the moment..I had mine at the hospital..I highly recommend that if anyone has any concerns or anxieties, keep talking to the doctors,..there are specialised people that can really help, ask your gp to speak to the specialist vaccination doctors. May I ask if anyone else has had Phizer, and how were they after the 2nd dose as I've heard the 2nd dose in both Astra and Phizer can cause more problems regarding reactions? ..Best wishes..
I have asthma and mild bronchiectasis, sinus issues & a few allergies. Had the Astrazeneca jab a week ago. Just mild flu like symptoms for 48 hours then fine, nothing compared to the joy of getting the vaccination & beginninga new journey.
Hi, I had my Astrazeneca vaccine last week, like you have allergies to dust and pets. Apart from feeling really tired the evening if the jab, I felt fine the next day.
I am in my 50s, on the most vulnerable list due to sevre asthma, and like yourself I suffer from a variety of allergies. About a month ago I had my vaccine with some side-effects. However, the side-effects went a way within a week. The most prevelent were a bit of a mild cough, tiredness, and abdominal pain.
Had mine yesterday like you have the usual Asthma allergies, I mentioned this and was told wouldn’t affect those sort of allergies.
Hi, I'm 31 and I had mine last Saturday and apart from some chills, a headache, and a sore arm from where they did the jab I've been fine. I'm tried all the time already due to another health problem. In the UK the recommendation for the Vaccine for people with allergies is the Astra Oxford one as there have been allergic reactions with the Pfizer Vaccine.
Try not to worry yourself. Wherever you have the Vaccine, all the staff are trained especially in this manner in case of an emergency such as an Anaphylactic Reaction.
All the best,

People with allergies only have to have the Oxford vaccine if they have had previous anaphylactic reactions to anything - it's not all allergies=Oxford. In some cases even those with EpiPens are able to have the Pfizer one although that would definitely be an individual decision made my a care team.
Like you I have all the usual allergies, I had my jab on Jan 17th (Pfizer) and apart from a sore arm next day no side effects at all
Hi I too have bad Asthma plus allergies to the usual, dust, etc. I had my vaccine yesterday and I feel fine. Only a bit of pain in the arm from the jab, but its just like any other jab. Maybe talk to a health care professional for reasurance before you have it. I did.
