Covid vaccine
I think the deciding factor for allergies is whether you have an EpiPen. That seems to be what they're using as the yes/no. But if you don't have one and are concerned you need to speak to your GP really about your individual circumstances.
This has changed now after advice from immunologists. My daughter is one and always thought that criterion was rubbish. The only important thing now is to not be known to be allergic to any of the ingredients of the vaccine...that is the preservatives etc.
Ooh interesting. And ha ha to your daughter's thoughts!
As twinkly29 says. Criteria seems to only concern those that have an EpiPen. You don’t get a choice as to which vaccine you receive. Suggest you speak to gp about your specific concerns. 1. They can advise you and 2. If you require specific inoculation they can organise.Remember lots of people have allergies and they getting inoculation.
Do you have flu vaccine?
I got the Pfizer vaccine last week, I have an allergy to penicillin and ibuprofen. The person giving the vaccine confirmed my allergies. I’ve had a sore arm for a few days and some flu like symptoms for a few days.
Fingers crossed that me
Any flu like symptoms after either this vaccine or the flu vaccine are just the body learning to fight the respective viruses - the vaccines can't give you flu or covid. Anyone who does come down with proper flu or covid (ie the actual illnesses not just a few mild symptoms) after having the vaccines will have been exposed to it either before having the vaccines or during the time after having them when they weren't at full effectiveness.
Yep! I felt a bit rough after my flu jab in September but it was absolutely nowhere near the two times I have had proper flu. Nor did it turn my previously mild and well controlled asthma into an atypical, poorly controlled monster like swine flu did in 2009. I used to think flu jabs weren't worth it but I now get them religiously after seeing the effect they can have.I will also be getting the COVID vaccine as soon as I'm invited.
Hello, I had the vaccine first dose, last Thursday. I have asthma and have been constantly on Symbicort for 4 years. I have antibiotics allergies, dust, dog hair and some they could not define. While being there, another person poliallergic had the shot, she had a panic attack from fear. The person doing the shot entered the substance very slow, she said, the moment I feel anything strange she will stop. All nurses where watching me, they checked my saturation and my skin for rashes. I stayed there 40 min after. The night before I had no sleep. It has been a hard choice for me. I do not wear EpiPen, but I have also Lupus and aps so I was pretty worked up. I had a sore arm for a day and some light headache. From a simple flu I can get so exacerbated so I took my chances on the vaccine. I wish you all the health in the world!
I'm atopic asthmatic with a long list of allergies. I work in healthcare so I have had numerous vaccinations including my annual flu vaccinations. The main concern will be if you have had a severe reaction to a vaccine before. I don't mean mild flu symptoms or headaches that pass which although unpleasant are common and mild. If you have had vaccinations before and not been advised to discontinue by a medical professional then you shouldn't have any problems. Like anything there is a very small percentage of people that may form a more severe reaction but the risk is small. You're probably far more likely to be stuck by lightning. I'm happy to say I had mine and had no problems.
I have multiple drug allergies, multiple food allergies, and multiple environmental allergies, as well as atopic asthma. I do not Cary an epi pen, nor have I ever had a reaction to a vaccine. Had the Pfizer vaccine last Tuesday, and other than a sore arm for 2 days and a bit of fatigue and a headache, I am fine and 100% getting the second dose as soon as I am able to.
Thank you all for your reply , I am due to have Covid jab tomorrow but panic has set in and I cancelled , my over riding gear is because I reacted to the biological injections for asthma , I can’t say I’m never having it , I’ve just postponed , going to try abs speak to my asthma nurse at the Brompton Monday
