How long for seretide 250 to take full effect?

Hi I've recently been diagnosed with Gerd and ashtma after a viral. I've been on the seretide 250 for two weeks using it with an aero chamber. I was previously on fostair 100 but was taking it the maximum amount each day so my doctor tried me on this. I'm also taking montekulast which helps I think but causes me to wake up with vivid dreams. I have seen an improvement but it seems to be a very slow one and I'm wondering how long to really give it for this inhaler before I try another? Thanks

New inhalers can take 6-8 weeks to take full effect. From now, the 2 weeks, hopefully you'll see a steady improvement though.

As twinkly said, inhalers can take a while to kick in (6-8 weeks) but if you’re already noticing a small change that’s a good thing. If you’re finding the dreams hard to deal with discuss with your GP about maybe taking it in the morning to see if that helps the issue.

For more info about inhalers in general; healthunlocked.com/asthmauk... and about GP add ons (including montelukast); healthunlocked.com/asthmauk...

Hope this helps and that you start feeling better soon.

I felt some relief straight away when I first went onto seretide, but the doctor told me I should notice a difference within 5 days and to come back if it didn’t. Others say up to 8 weeks, so I think like most thing asthma related, it’s different for each of us. Personally I wouldn’t wait 8 weeks if I hadn’t noticed any improvement at all.

Hi thanks. I am improving daily it's just a slow improvement. I just dont want to get used to the symptoms which is how it seems for the past 6 weeks. I am back at work now which is helping.

If after a couple of months, you think there’s an improvement but you still don’t feel your symptoms are controlled, there is a higher dose of seretide available (500.) I had to go on that and it made a huge difference.

Thanks I'll try that. I seem to be improving but these last few days with the cold weather and working as a delivery driver breathing in the cold air I think I'm setting myself back. I'm using a scarf over my mouth and nose but still can finish with a tight chest.

Did your doctor give you something for the GERD to help with the reflux?

Hi yes amzaprozle 40 mg in the morning and then gaviscon advance which is costing me a fortune lol. Still having gargling in my throat in the morning but doctor said it could take up to three months for gerd symptoms to simmer down.

Have you thought about a pre-payment for your prescriptions? I save a fortune each year.

GERD & asthma often occur together, the reflux irritates the respiratory system so we take muscle relaxation meds to improve the asthma symptoms but then they may also relax the upper digestive system that controls reflux. Prednisolone and Albutermol are noted as culprits. And asthmatic patients have a higher percentage of hiatus hernias than the general population - chicken or egg? Does asthma cause HH or what? I've spent a fortune in the past on Gaviscon but rarely use antacids now. I try and avoid large meals, fatty foods, late night eating, lying flat. I'm on iron tablets and so have to avoid antacids as they affect the absorption of iron, but iron can cause reflux!

I hope you feel better soon.

Ah that will explain why I didn't get benefit from the prednisolone. Thanks I've changed my diet and eating times so hopefully things will be on the up.
