Has anybody had RAST tests?
Hi,
Yes I have had them done and I’m going for further testing next week. Basically they are to identify allergens. Levels of specific IgE > 0.35 kuA/L are considered positive.
You will probably also get a total IgE level. This lets you know if you have allergies, even if they haven’t been detected through the current test.
Does that make sense?
Is there a chart on the test that shows levels of allergens? There usually are on mine, e.g. like Troilus said, anything about .35 is an allergy. Do you have a GP or allergist who can review the results with you?
I don't have an allergist but I do have an immunologist - is it worth me speaking to them about it?
Hi Kayleicia,
I see no reason why you shouldn’t ask. Knowing if you are allergic to something isn’t going to do you any harm. It will help you to try and avoid things that cause inflammation in your airways or trigger your asthma.
That's very true. I have an appt. with my immunologist on Tuesday so I think I'll probably bring it up then. I think it came back high for common inhalants and dogs so hopefully they'll be able to give me some guidance on how I can avoid common inhalants... If I can! Thanks for your advice
