Hi everybody I have had problem with my asthma for over a year breathing not good and the Barky cough and mucus has been terrible, been on carbocistien 2x3 a day and montelukast at night for 3 months,also nurse has doubled my sirdupla to 250 and it has greatly improved I finished the med yesterday thought must Come off the Carbocistein and montelukast at some point but have a feeling of apprehension leaving off as I’m scared of going back downhill to the last nine months I know if nessasary I can proberbly go back on them wondered if anybody else feels like this really fed up keep contacting docs

Who has said you must come off the montelukast and carbocisteine?

Nobody said I had to come off, I decided to Give it a try as symptoms have eased and thought do I need it at moment, may be wrong will see in next few days,I am a little apprehensive but having a review with asthma nurse at end of week

The point of preventer medication is to prevent issues. They usually like you well controlled for at least 6 months before they try downgrading/removing medications. It may be an idea to follow this plan rather than stop/starting.

It may also be an idea to give the AUK nurses a call to discuss it with them (as I’m assuming there’s a reason you want to stop the meds). They are great and can be reached on 0300 2225800 M-F 9-5. Alternatively their WhatsApp service is 07378 606728.

I was hoping you'd say that and that it wasn't a doctor who'd said you must stop it. It's usually advisable to try these things with medical advice (and I think things are meant to be stable for 6 months before stepping down treatment although that might not be correct).... but at the same time my advice would be if it's helping then don't get rid of it as it's likely to be worse without it.
