Hi, sorry once again another post about shielding or social distancing.

I take symbicort 200/6 2puffs twice a day, montelukast, azithromycin 250mg daily, uniphyllin 600mg daily and 60mg

I have been social distancing for just over a week but should I be shielding? My asthma is reasonably controlled at the moment.

I don’t want to bother my GP surgery.

Many thanks

Not sure about your last drug, the 60mg one ...?

Aside from that, the symbicort level is below the threshold for inhalers (as is not a very high dose), BUT the fact you are on azithromycin puts you in the shielding category.

Hi, thanks for your reply, baclofen is an anti Spasmatic prescribed by a cough professor for the chronic cough part of my asthma.

I looked at the guidelines and thought it probably didn’t refer to me, apart from the azithromycin. It’s boggling isn’t it!

My understanding is any of those puts you in the group.

NHS texts and letters (I don't think they are using emails) to the extremely vulnerable (those requiring shielding) could take until 29 March to be received; it must be a logistical nightmare to send all these out to 1.5m people, and it certainly could not be done simultaneously!

The current advice is, if you have not received notification by the 29th, and you think you are in the extremely vulnerable category, then you should contact your GP.

Thank you for your reply, my surname does begin with W too and may be being done alphabetically?

My Dr has been in contact regarding something else and has told me I must practice shielding.

Better to be safe!

Stay well
