Shielding

Hi! I’m aware that a lot of questions have probably been asked about this already, so I’m sorry! I’ve looked at the Asthma UK guidance and I think I should be shielding? I take my reliever daily as my asthma isn’t controlled and my Duoresp Spiromax was on the list. I am no longer on montelukaast (sp?) as I didn’t feel it benefited me... can someone confirm is the Duoresp Spiromax is a combination inhaler and therefore I need to shield? I understand that if you just have a high dose daily steroid inhaler but don’t take montelukaast then you don’t shield but you do if it’s a combination inhaler? Sorry, just a bit confused and I’ve heard nothing from my GP yet so I’m on edge... my asthma has been good the past few weeks either, so I think that isn’t helping right now.

Thanks for any help.

Hi feracorda. I'm a bit confused too. I was on fostair 100/6 2 puffs twice daily until I had an asthma attack just before Christmas. I've since been on fostair 200/6 2 puffs twice daily and had 3 courses of steroids. According to AUK, I am in the high risk category due to my inhaler. I think there are people who are in a far worse condition than myself. I guess the only thing to do is wait and see if I get a letter.

Take care, evo.

To my understanding it’s not a case of how well of ill you feel but on the level of medication required to get you feeling as you do, your lungs are still compromised even if you feel ok meaning they are much more susceptible to infection.

Thanks Gareth57. I'm working from home now so that's one less worry. Actually my whole family are now working from home. I've been fortunate get shopping delivery slots too. Take care, Evo

Have a look at the guidance from Asthma UK at: asthma.org.uk/advice/trigge...

That may clear up some issues, otherwise see if you can get advice from your GP.

NHS letters/texts, etc are coming out this week, so not everyone will have received them yet as it would be a bit of a logistical problem to tell 1.5m people simultaneously!
