Hi, Im new here... I’m feeling extremely anxious as I’m sure a lot of us are at the moment so big hugs to everyone.
I have an appointment at a hospital where I have to get a ferry in order to get there. I’ve been socially distancing myself for the past couple of weeks and as of this week been in the house with my little children although partner is still working as he is self employed but trying to work empty jobs.
I’m feeling really anxious about whether I should attend. The appointment is for a Second scan and biopsy of a recently found thyroid lump on one side as the first was indeterminate. Obviously, there’s a small possibility of cancer or another underlying autoimmune problem which then adds to my vulnerability with this virus.
I have fairly well controlled asthma, taking 2 doses seretide 100 twice a day. (Recently increased) Rarely taking Ventolin. Also taking amarys spray for allergy and nasal polyps.
Is it worth the travel?

Gosh that is a dilemma. I'm sorry you're in this situation. I think you need to go with your gut feeling, as there probably isn't a right or wrong answer. Are you in an area that has already seen high confirmed cases? If not, then maybe worth going now, before things get worse? At least then you will have knowledge that you are progressing with a diagnosis etc, rather than being on hold indefinitely. You could inform them that you are in a vulnerable group and hope they can keep you more separate? I don't know if this helps! Take care.
There should be a phone number to call on your appointment letter? Best check that the appointment is still on but emphasise that you're vulnerable because of your asthma. There has been some move towards cancelling some appointments HOWEVER yours may be considered important. Travelling may be OK as many folk are working from home.
I had the same investigations on my thyroid because of a goitre. Even had radioactive bromide x-rays as well as biopsies. Thyroid treatments are very good and the sooner they can establish what's causing your goitre the quicker they can treat it, if necessary.
