Hi everyone Im asthmatic and over 2 and a half yrs ago I had what I/the doctors thought was a chest infection 2 lots of antibiotics , then steroids and chest xrays all came back clear. so then went on long acting steroid inhaler (which helped with the like the was no air feeling) I then had lung function test.I have been bringing up thick green phlegm projectile at times, had a wheeze when exhale and lying down. They said the next step was copd drugs (even tho lung function test showed no copd). I saw a different doctor back in August begged could she refere me to chest clinic she asked had anyone ever tested my phlegm...nope. Turns out `i have haemophilus influezae, so fast forward 3 x 2 week courses of doxycycline (once a month ) infection went down from 2+ to 1+ between doses 1 and 2 , and now just finished 1000g amoxicillin 3 times a day for a week (latest results before latest antibiotics the infection went back up to 2+ and is a second infection there but didnt hear what doc called it as i was shocked to hear that was now a second infection too. literally finished the last course yesterday 8 am, The day before yesterday woke up to chest crackling like morse code and crackling all that day and i thought no way this is going with another 2 days antibotics left, but its changed to a wheeze that can go for a while after bringing up phlegm, sometimes bits with yellow in others clear, not bringing up loads now but chest not feeling completely normal either, could it be gone finally and im getting over it with these symptoms ? or am i kidding myself, doc said give it a month after course, before coming back as could still have phlegm. (praying just left over crap in my lungs, but reading stuff on here thinking will i ever get rid of this for good

:-( know there is alot of people worse off but i am so scared of passing this on also, to my 6 yr old grandson or family and to be honest so sick of this now. thanks for listening any advice to give thank you in advance

Hi no never had a pneumonia vaccination but I think I will ask about that, one of doctors said its basically like ive had mild pneumonia for 2 yrs. I thought why are they saying about putting me on a copd drug when i haven't even got copd. The doctor said it was like a hair in my lung that kept irritating....actually it was a bacterial infection that they never bothered looking into by a simple phlegm test. It was a trainee doctor who actually bothered to get one done and I have since seen another trainee doctor since and he even said all the signs were there was more going on and something wasn't right. Im hoping its just that ive had this so long (june 2017 when this started). finally someone bothered looking into it August 2019 and its just being stubborn and not that I now am going to keep getting it.

Its only been a couple of days since the strongest course of antibotics and I am bringing up a little and slight wheeze on and off , but I have no idea yet if still have it or its still there a little and going to come back fully over the next month (what seems to have happened before. I think because they dont like to give more antibiotics so soon they want to wait for another month then test give more if needed. fingers crossed just not right completely cos getting over it (have felt better inbetween 2 week antibiotic course 1 and 2 but it had got worse again and is a second infection there also so maybe more to recover from..... but mainly I haven't a clue just guessing like i` have been for the last 2 and a half yrs (have tried to self diagnose myself everything from alergies to acid reflux ha ha.

I had 6 a day steroids course with the before last lot of antibiotics, but it might be an idea now again for another lot if i don't settle down soon, cos i am really not bringing up much mucus now but still getting urge to cough and hurts in my airways (if that makes sense) when i do cough so it could be inflamed and steroids might finish this off , if antibiotics have done the trick (fingers crossed). Thanks you, I hope you finally get yours totally sorted soon. I think most of the time the doctors haven't really got a clue :-/.

Hi , always have 2 weeks of antibiotics when you get a chest infection , but it’s a good idea to get your mucus tested , send a sample in to your surgery for lab testing ,this will make sure you get the right antibiotics for an infection, maybe a course of steroids would help , flu vaccine and pneumonia vaccine would be a good idea ,

Best wishes

Hi I’ve had 3 lots of 2 weeks of antibiotics and latest one was a week of 1000mg amoxcillian antibiotics 3 times a day , all since August for the lung bacteria ( which was finally diagnosed after 2 and half yrs ) didn’t show up on chest X-rays as wasn’t a chest infection. They finally tested my mucus back in August ... been trying to get rid of this since then.
