Theophylline

Theophylline 300mg twice a day Montelukast Spirvia 2 puffs once a day Normal peak flow is 580. Has been at 400 or less since December. Today they are looking at sending me home with weaning doses of prednisolone.

The advice I was passed was that it's up to the GP but one option is Theophylline. Is anyone else struggling to source Phyllocontin and had a replacement med. Thanks for any comments or thoughts on this, I'll perhaps contact the Lung advice line. Joy

I had to stop taking Theophylline to be able to start this newish drug. The side effects can take some to work through to start with but I progressed and listen up folks it has made a big difference over the time since then.

severe about 8 years ago following pneumonia and meds have been maxed, colonised with psuedomonas, nebulised colomycin, steroids, salbutamol and atrovent, seretide inhaler, montelukast, doxycycline (replaced azithromycin), fexofenadene etc etc - had previous treatment with bricanyl 24/7 infusion and theophylline

Saw consultant in July, who basically said biologics may be the way forward, but got to do lots of tests first - spirometry, feno, blood tests, ct scan, sleep study, and have been started on theophylline.

After returning home, and a bit of research over what could cause that, I discovered that Theophylline can cause it, I have been on Uniphyllin for three years. Has anyone else had this issue, and how do I stop it reoccurring.

My theophylline blood levels were too high so my dose has been reduced by a third I am now too breathless to do very much. Are there anyalternatives for me

Hello I have my medication review next week and we’re discussing switching Montelukast for Theophylline as my asthma is becoming more controlled and isn’t allergen driven. Does anyone have any experience of Theophylline.

Side effects/Signs of toxicity Possible side effects of theophylline are; Agitation, irritability, restlessness, tachycardia, hypotension, rapid breathing, Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, headaches, tremors, hallucinations, seizures, hyperglycaemia.

I'm asthmatic take my reliever, preventer and have 500mg of theophylline a day. I read the green book from the gove site and its says that asthmatics who are on steroid treatment (my preventer contains steroids but I'm unsure if this means tablets, such as prednisone). Or have been hospitalised.

after being diagnosed with asthma for two yr had lots of chest infections, Wes referral to respiratory clinic due to COVID had to have telephone consultation,told by letter that I had bronchiectasis,no scan or X-rays just saying he has told dr to give me steroids for a month and theophylline tablets

Also, I’m guessing that theophylline must be related to caffeine as I feel buzzy and wired - as if I’ve had half a dozen strong coffees. I cannot get to sleep or stay asleep- I’m getting about 3 hours maximum. Do the side effects wear off?

I was "diagnosed" with asthma three months ago and prescribed a corticosteroid inhaler, Ventolin inhaler (later changed to Berodual), and Theophylline pills. The only medication I'm using right now is my corticosteroid inhaler (DuoResp Spriomax) one puff in the morning, and one puff in the evening.

Those on aminophylline/theophylline tablets, who find they keep waking at the same time of night, then having issues at the same time of day - go get your levels checked!
