Muscle spasm & cramps

So, after changing from Fostair 200/6 to Seretide 250 Evohaler because of muscle cramps & spasm I am again suffering from the same, my GP blamed the LABA in the Fostair & put me on Seretide because it has a different LABA but after only 3 weeks I am suffering the same, could it be the Steroid that is cause...has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you get around it?

Hi

Have you tried increasing your potassium (and magnesium) intake? I used to get bad cramps from prednisolone, or if I had too much salbutamol and it was my consultant who suggested increasing them - I found having a glass of fresh orange juice every day or so and eating the occasional bag of nuts/seeds has stopped almost all of my cramps

Alternatively you can take them in supplement form

Hope that helps

Thanks Emma, I have just started taking magnesium supplement but it will take time to kick in, I try to have a banana daily too, will try orange juice & nuts..

You’re welcome... apparently a glass of fresh OJ (not from conc) has more potassium in than bananas. If you’re taking mag supplements you don’t need to go overboard with the nuts/seeds 😅. Hope it helps

Hi

I have just changed from Forstair to Seratide due to muscle spasms and cramps. Such a shame as Forstair seemed to be working well. Only been on Seratide a week and cramps have gone but my asthma symptoms are back! . I take extra potassium and magnesium. I have found since starting magnesium I am sleeping better. I will see how I am after three weeks on Seratide!

I get foot and ankle cramps every night when I lay down. Figured it's my bulging disc playing hell with the nerve. Can laba's cause cramps? Where do you get them?

Mine are in hands, forearms, feet & calves.....also feeling them around my rib cage area which didn’t happen with the Fostair...it’s so uncomfortable & annoying..

I was changed from seratide to symbicort. Didn't want to as I did very well on seratide. I got muscle cramps and hand tremors but they refuse to put me back on seratide. What's up with that?
