Fostair

For years and years, probably just after launch in 1998, I was transferred from Becotide to Seretide. My asthma nurse has changed me to Fostair, saying it's very good, the particles are smaller and the majority that have gone on to Fostair have been really pleased with the results. Would be really interested to hear any comments.

Sorry I have now seen related posts to Fostair but any comments gratefully received.

I am on fostair pump so I can use a spacer and had no problems with it at all. Second inhaler I have ever been given and it works for me. I have been on it approximately 4 year's. It's a mix of a steroid and 12 hour blue inhaler.

I was put on Fostair 100/6 two years ago and my asthma has improved a lot. I have not had to take any steroid tablets since starting Fostair.

I'm hoping that I can stop my oral steroids, hoping my new inhaler will start to control my breathing 🙂

Great news. Always a bit of a worry when you change inhalers in case you go backwards.

Hi Gilly100

I have just started using Fostair, 2 weeks ago, and oral steroids, I'm hoping it's as good as the Dr says it is 🙂

Hi Hopeful What were you on previously? Your doctor seems impressed also.

Serutude, but I was always suffering,

Had a bad attack around 6 weeks ago

Taking oral steroids, nebs, and inhaler including fostair

Still struggling tho,

I will have to wait it out, and my breathing is under control. Just hope fostair is as good as the Dr says xxx

Forstair worked on my asthma very well but it also gave me the most painful muscle spasms and cramps and I had to stop taking it. I now have Seratide and whilst it’s not as good the side effects are a lot less.

Hi, I've been taking fastair for a few weeks now, and I'm getting cramps and muscle spasms. Glad you mentioned it,

Now I know what's causing it

I’ve just started on Fostair. Can I ask if the cramps and spasms were in your back and legs and how long after starting did you notice it? Thanks

Cramps in my legs and feet, mostly in the back of my legs. Also into my ribs within two weeks I would say.

Can I ask if you take a statin pill too?

Thanks for your reply and sorry to hear of your aches and pains.

Under no circumstances would I take statins. I have undertaken a lot of research into this family of drugs and I find I would not take them.

Yes it’s a minefield

Hi I now use fostair after always being on the standard brown inhaler. In general my asthma is now very well controlled however I seem to now get flare ups early summer time.

Initially I found that fostair gave me the shakes! It was particularly noticeable in my hands. Over time this has improved.

I was put on Fostair a couple of months ago. It was great for my asthma but I had to change after a short while because it gave me a horrendously sore throat even after the usual rinsing routine. Hope it works ok for you though!😀

Patients are not changed to Fostair because it is "very good", they are changed because it is cheaper than the inhaler you are using - there would be absolutely no point in changing a perfectly adequate inhaler otherwise. That's not to say that Fostair doesn't work - like all medication, it will work for some and not for others. If you find it doesn't suit you, then you should ask to go back to Seretide.

I know, Looked on internet and did see it is cheaper. Was told that the particles are smaller and go further into lungs but if they are not as effective, that's no good. Will certainly ask to go back to seretide if not as effective.

Hi there

So you think the secretive is better?

Just Dr said that fostair will protect all of my lungs an not just part of my lungs

He said that this is new wonder inhaler far better than others I have taken

There is no guarantee that any one inhaler will work better than another for any particular individual. I know from this forum that Fostair works well for many but not for others (including myself). As my GP says "asthma is big business", and there are so many inhalers available simply because people react to them in different ways. If Fostair were the wonder drug your GP suggests, then there wouldn't be any need for others. Fostair does produce very small droplets which travel well into the lungs, but that doesn't help if the actual components of the droplet don't suit the patient. Unfortunately, there is no "one size fits all" in any treatment regime.

I don't know fostair so cant comment on it but I was on Flixotide / Serevent for 10 years and then Seretide for next 10. I moved from Seretide to Relvar Ellipta 92/122 last year and my breathing which was poorly controlled on Seretide is now is extremely well controlled. I think my body was too used to Seretide. My consultant said Driver Ellipta is Seretides grand daughter.

I was told the same but sadly Forstair didn't work for me and I went back to seritide. Now on symbicort and my asthma well controlled.

I was also on Seretide for many years, it worked well for a long time but eventually became ineffective. I'm now on Fostair, it took a few weeks to kick in but is much better now.
