Eosinophilic asthma

Has anybody else ever had the urge to gradually stop taking all their asthma meds and see just what ground zero is like? I have been moved around from steroid to steroid over the past couple of years and have now been given Spiriva Respimat to take in the mornings as well as two other steroids. I'm pretty sure that some of my unwellness is side effects from the meds. After a really depressing visit to an arrogant consultant, I feel more confused than ever as to what is going on.

Yes definitely, I stopped taking one inhaler recently to see if it was doing anything as I’ve taken fir years , actually forgot I wasn’t taking it and realised it’s why I must have been struggling more so , back on it now and seem better

Please do not stop taking your inhalers and steroids this is what stopping you from your asthma getting worse and having an asthma attack! I read your other post and you have really had a tough time. So I can understand a bit of what you are going through. If you think your medication is giving you side effects then going and talk to your doctor or asthma nurse. These things can be sorted out.

What I didn't appreciate when my asthma got bad three years ago is how it affect your mental health. I struggle to get my head around it. Especially when nov 17-March 18 I ended up needing to be under consultant about my asthma. However after tests and several appointments my asthma was under control again. Since last June (when I saw the consultant last) my asthma has been really well control. (Fostair nexthaler 200/6 2 puffs twice a day plus monkelaust) So you see there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I think the best think you can do to answer your worries is to talk to Asthma uk nurses. Details below.

Hi , I suffered a continuous asthma attack , with serious flare-ups , for eight months before I received the correct treatment . Once the asthma was under control I weaned myself off the medications and have been fine ever since . One thing I have found is that I'm very sensitive to pred. , and it is affective for me at about a third of the prescribed rate . Taking a reduced dose has also reduced/eliminated the side affects I was suffering . This is just my personal experience of course , so proceed with caution .
