Please do not worry. A shadow on your lung could indicate an infection xx

Of course you are worried! Make sure you take someone with you when you see a medic again as sometimes our anxiety can make it difficult to take in what we are being told. The more information you have about what is wrong with you, the better. In my experience ignorance is a huge worry and not bliss at all.

Hetty of course you must be worried sick, all I can say is I have been in your position several times. Shadows can often be caused by a lung infection (antibiotics will sort it out), or something like old scarring, or even a benign lesion, both due to excessive coughing, neither are life threatening.

I’ve been told I had cancer twice; both times incorrect. The first time was a lung infection, the second was benign lesions. However my lungs are a mess, I have amyloidosis, COPD, plus chronic asthma overlay, but I’m still around!

Even if it is bad news (which I very much doubt it will be), do bear in mind that cancer does not have the mortality rate it had. The constant scaremongering is to stop people smoking, caught in the early stages full recovery is more than just an option.

So try and go with the flow, try and have an expectation that all will be OK, if not then I’m confident you will still be on this site ten years from now.

Chin up kid,

my thoughts are with you,

Nick

Looks more and more like a lung infection, I'd have thought your GP would have given you antibiotics as well. Regardless, It sounds as if your GP has your interests at heart, which is a big plus.

Just go with the flow, things will work out well OK I'm sure

Seems you have a good GP. Remember to a good GP you are a person, but to a hospital you are just a number. In fairness to our NHS it is under increasing pressure so hospitals have little option, regretfully a far cry from Holby City!

Let me know how you get on, I shall be thinking of you.

Not a doctor but as far as I remember a shadow on the lung is TB, which is fixable.

Try and keep busy if you can or go and pamper yourself. Just out of hospital and I know what's it like awaiting results. The very best of luck to you.
