Lung nodule

I had a CT scan in hospital while being treated for pneumonia. I understand it could be due to infections or scaring in my lungs. It is also quite common (35%) for people to have these. I going back for an x ray in early January.

yes they are found now. In the days before scans and all the detail they can show, these were unnoticeable. They can get bigger, disappear completely or site there harmlessly which is very often the case depending on the size of initial findings .they are usually checked periodically and if not altered they are left alone.

I was told I had a nodule in my right lung when scanned for another problem. Told they would probably check in a years time see if it had grown, heard no more. That was ? 8 years ago, so presume okay. 👍

I had a CT scan and amongst other things it said something like - "small nodules in upper apices, not of concern". It seemed like what they look at was very detailed as it described all sorts of things and referred to signs of old infection but also said the main part of the lungs were clear of anything and the consultant passed it on to the GP, summarising it as, "normal". Yet his overall diagnosis is, "asthma with fixed airway obstruction". I'm not sure exactly how he got to that except for spirometry but he was laid back about it all which confuses me.

Maybe you need to ask some more questions of your doctor. They are after all not there expertise.

A lung nodule was found after I had a CT scan about 5 years ago. The consultant rang me to discuss all the findings, including the nodule and he explained that I would have another scan after 3 months, just to ensure it hadn't grown. I got the "all OK" after the 2nd scan.

Yes, I got mine post Covid pneumonia, one CT in Feb, another in Nov, it is just scaring, not to be concerned about. I hope it is the same for you. Best of health!

Hopefully your appointment in January will give you the explanations you need. Sending you lots of good wishes.

Hi, after a recent chest x-ray they detected what the doctor described as a ‘nodule in the fatty pads of the heart.’ The doctor wasn’t overly concerned. Three months later my X-ray was clear. No follow up checks so I’m presuming, as others have commented that these nodules can come and go and could be linked to prior infections. At the time I was really concerned but my GP offered reassurance. Hopefully your nodules turn out to be just the result of your infection. All the best, Dan.

I had four nodules shown on a CT scan at Stanford, CA, USA some years ago, and they said to come back a year later to see if they grew. :) They also said nodules were commonly due to pneumonias one had had before. I indeed had an antibiotic-resistant pneumonia as a kid which took me 2 months of ab shots to get over. So, it was likely that.

The pneumonia I had took 2 lots of antibiotics to respond to it. That was the second chest infection in fortnight. The 1st one was treated with a single antibiotics.

I have one they think was caused by a histoplasmosis infection. It seems common as you say. Good you are following it carefully.
