Random question. I'm new at this asthma thing, as only officially diagnosed over a month ago & still learning.
I know I struggle a little when it's really hot weather, feel a bit like I'm suffocating because their is no air but tonight I really struggled.
Had found it a little stifling all day due to the hot weather but feel really stupid right now as am currently sat at 11pm (everyone asleep) in the front room with my face to the window deep breathing in the cool air. Couldn't handle being in the bedroom anymore as it was as too hot & didn't want to wake my husband. I even had two puffs of ventolin before as struggling before bed but after laying down for a few minutes I had to sneak out & found myself gulping the fresh air from the open window. Is this normal for an asthmatic. Obviously I know it shouldn't be normal but I mean is it due to asthma? I am quite calm so can't be a panic attack. Also beside the whole heat thing I have had prosecco tonight which I never normally have & the last time I had it I felt funny too (not because I had too much for all you comedians out there 😂) but only had the one glass last time but this time had more.
Do you think I am unlucky enough to have prosecco as a trigger? Is it solely the heat or am I being completely neurotic!?!
Ps no need to worry as have sat here for an hour & finally feel like I can breathe normally (i.e.: without trying to gulp the air in) as I know most people won't read this until tomorrow.
Just trying to work out if it's all to do with asthma or if I'm completely crazy 😜

Hi there I'm a severe asthmatic ie mine can go from nothing to life threatening in flick of a switch was in hospital in Jan on an off till mid Feb under intensive care team.
Anyway last couple of weeks I too have struggled with the warm muggy air longing for some cool air. Must have been up 6 times last night coughing which is my early warning signs then then the wheezing. Must have used my fostair inhaler four times (longer acting than ventoliin)was actually on verge of getting up then but did manage to settle till someone knocked the door with package for my daughter at 8.30 (2.5 hours sleep!!)
Bless hubbbie gone down as dogs kicked off too. Wheezy again now. Was on verge of doing a nebulizer in night.
So I would say yes hot humid weather does affect my asthma.
I think most asthmatics struggle with the heat. You are doing the right thing, with the open window and sitting up. I have slept with my head on the windowsill before now! A fan can help, but sitting up seems to be the most use. I can't drink prosecco - makes me ill - but I'm absolutely fine with champagne!!
Believe it or not I have bennbandvasthmatic for 20 years and have moved to Florida ... yes the heat the humidity the lot. Strangely enough , and touch wood, I'm ok the air con makes me a bit dry but it does most people. I found the quick changes in weather in U.K. Too harsh on my asthma on my chest here it just got from hot to warm.
I'm hope you feel better soon as I remember that feeling. I had to take up to 6 pumps on ventolin in one go that's roughly the same as a nebulizer. Just watch out for people with colds as they love to pass them in U.K. Thinking we are all the same and they last 3 days!
A cold only lasts 3 days! I so wish that. Don't you just hate it when people who don't have asthma say "Why not just get a cough sweet or something. That will get rid of it for you". Ho hum!
Sorry but your prosecco might be a problem. I first became aware of an allergic reaction to wine about 10 years ago. In my case it was nasal polyps that were to blame. At about the same time the wine industry was legally obliged to declare 'Sulphites' on their labels if the levels were above a certain amount. Now in my case Sulphites weren't the problem but I read a lot about them at the time. Cut a long story short: Sulphites can bring about an asthmatic reaction and there are more Sulphites in white wine than red.
Good luck in finding Sulphite free wine, I rarely did and ended up by giving up drinking wine altogether (bottled cider is just the same).
Thank you that's interesting to know especially as still hadn't felt right since it happened last night & then ended up having an attack earlier today! Definitely thinking it is a potential trigger. I'm ok with red wine as would normally have that & never had a problem but never really got on with white wine, maybe this is why. I won't miss either drinks so not worried & as you said on the plus side there is always gin lol!
