Inhalers!

There is a history of asthma n my family and like my mother I started suffering around the age of 50. I have a nasal drip and excessive mucus. I'm allergic to cats and pollen to some extent.

After a long bout of chest pain although spit as clear and not infected my doctor has put me back on Ventolin, Clenil (using a spacer) and Mometasone nasal spray plus an antihistamine tablet each morning. However the inhalers have a negative effect on my voice and leave me with an unusual taste in my mouth as well as a husky voice which is making it difficult to sing in my choir (I'm preparing for a concert at St David's cathedral ofVerdi Requiem , 1st soprano lots of top A)

I've restricted the inhalers to once a day, at night time whilst taking the nasal spray night and morning.

I'm due to see the asthma nurse tomorrow for a test.

Is there another way to keep my chest clear????

I am also very concerned about steroids having experienced how negatively they effected my mothers skin in particular making it paper thin.

Ask for a different inhaler! I was on clenil for 2-3 years, and it always made me cough even with a spacer. Now I am on stronger stuff which at present is better for me. However, if my needs reduce I would now say a firm no to clenil. It is said that the amount of steroids is so very low in inhalers so the risk of problems isn't great. The tablets are far stronger. But if you are seeing your nurse ask her about it.

Hi

If you are experiencing any chest pain I would ask for an X-ray if you haven't had one. Also regarding a husky voice have you had your THYROID checked out which is one of the signs.

Sorry I cannot be of no further help.

I only have a very mild Asthma worse in the Winter.

I use a Ventolin Evohaler with no side effects.

Hope that helps Janet.
