I have very recently swapped from seretide 250 to Flostair 100/6. Started Tuesday and asthma is getting worse again. I thought it was just the heat but no barely two days of being off seretide my chest is start to ache and I reaching for my ventolin. Nuts I thought so I going to put myself back on seretide. I have made an appointment with one of my asthma nurses next Thursday. I was hoping to get on to a newer faster acting combination inhaler but nope my body is particular and old fashioned. The asthma nurse I saw last week 12 week review doesn't mind if I am on an'old' drug as long as it works. Sigh? !

Just Google 'fostair switch'
Lots of different opinions and lots of discussion.Everyones different and everybody has there own experiences on Flostair. Generally speaking I don't go and read side effects but just watch how my body reacts to medicine. I took medication for another long term health condition I have gave me cramps at night. Hadn't put 2 and 2 together until I looked at causes of cramps nhs. Then asked my local pharmacist and he confirmed it. Come to think of it I go back tomorrow and ask. I always like to take things with a pinch of salt.
I've been through multiple "switches" over the years. If it doesn't work just switch back, you're not crazy. We all react differently to the same thing.
FWIW I was just on salmeterol (Servent Diskus) for 15 days along with Qvar. I'm still on Qvar. I found the current formulation of salmeterol very powerful for clearing the asthma, but the side effects not so much. But you clearly have no problem with it. Instead of fluticasone+seretide you could just take beclomethasone (Qvar) and salmeterol (Serevent) separately to see if that gives you what you want.
What is Qvar? Seretide 250 has been my only combination that I tried. So I thought I tried something else. I have tried to step down to just a reliver worked last year for the summer but not this year still needing the long acting steroid. Asthma is such an individual things that is something I learnt.
I was switched to Fostair recently and feel like a different person, so much better. It is clearly a very personal thing. One point is that I was prescribed 200/6 dose on smart regime so 2 doses am & pm but up to 4 more instead of ventolin - previously I was on seretide 250, then symbicort 200 so I'm just wondering if you have the equivalent dose if you have fostair 100/6?
I think so but I going to ask next week when I see the asthma nurse.
Fostair 100 is quite a low dose. I was switched from Fostair 100 to 200 after a short while as it was not strong enough and I am doing well on this. I was also taken off Seretide but I do prefer Fostair now.
So you went off (what dose of Seretide?) I was on 250 2 puffs twice a day. I gone back to Seretide last night. I was getting a tight chest so decided to switch back. Now back to normal
A respiratory consultant (who I was referred to after a consultant in gastroenterology said I should have my asthma reviewed by a respiratory consultant) tried to switch me from flixotide 250 to Fostair. I refused point blank, arguing that a) my asthma was very well controlled with the flixotide so why take a risk upsetting things by changing the medication and b) I have been on preventer inhalers before that have used the steroid beclametasone as the primary ingredient; they have never been fully effective at controlling my asthma. Although I didn't say it, I wasn't happy about the strength suggested either - 100/6. The consultant backed down; I'm still on flixotide 250.
I had same experience as yourself, when being forced to change from well controlled asthma on Seretide to Fostair 100 at the beginning of this year . Coughed incessantly, and ended up with 2 antibiotices, and 3 courses of Prednisone, changed to Flutiform, after another week, changed to Relvar, and just tapered off Prednisone this week. Feeling a little better now, but I will never allow myself to be bullied again, into switiching inhalers. Fostair contains Beclomethasone, and that irritates my throat, and causes constant coughing.
I went back to see an asthma nurse on Thursday about the flostair not working for me. Nurse was very happy to change back to seretide which I had already done. Ask if I could try halving my dose of seretide to 125 from now 250. Ask for only one inhaler they usually prescribe two inhalers at a time. I have one started flostair but one untouched which I have to waste. Hate waste I am a daughter of a world war 2 child plus it's wasting money.
