I have been diagnosed with late onset asthma and suffer from recurring chest infections - every 3/4 weeks. This has continued for 18 months.Ayone with similar problems. I am finding the constant use of antibiotics, Nebuliser very restricting .
Am now trying Homeopthy ??
Any thoughts , ideas would be appreciated

Hi much the same for the last 18 months antibiotics and steriod don't seem to get anywhere long term .have better days and bad days the damp weather doesn't help me at all .let me know if anything works for you
Hi I've had the same its doing my head in mines usually as the weather changes damp is worse than hot for me I think but the last few weeks have been particularly bad I had antibiotics and steroids they helped but its not gone .hope you get better soon .
I would ask to be referred to asthma specialist nurse. It's obviously not the right antibiotic. I've had to use Nebuliser more than normal and sorry wouldn't bother homeopathy. I tried everything, had asthma all my life now aged 54.
You need steroids and specialist input, maybe the preventer inhaler is making it worse as I found some did. I have tried most of them and symbicort I suppose is the best for me.
You could also have allergies which are triggering symtoms. Usual suspects are animal fur, dander, dust mites, Aspergillus fungal mould spores. Foods like eggs, soya, nuts, shellfish, tomatoes, and I always suggest keeping diaries of what you have eaten and when and where you've been. I could eat eggs one day but have symptoms the next. It's trial and error and putting it down in a diary but you need specialist advice or referral to respiratory consultant. I want referred until aged 52 and found Aspergillus when more tests were done as I had chest infections 3/4 times year and knew it was getting worse. Good luck but push for more help.
Thanks . Have follow up appointment with specialist so will insist on seeing Asthma nurse . Previously I was refused access to Asthma nurse as I had chest infections?
Thanks for comments
Hi Bouris I'd say a good check up, a referral, the appropriate treatment so asthma gets controlled.
As matti says you sound like more specialist input is needed. I also take fostair, same dose but can also increase this when needed and take antihistamines etc. Other ppl take montekulast too. Sounds like much more could be done to help you.
Hi Bouris, that sounds awful. Have you had a chest xray to see if there's an underlying problem? 18 months of constant chest infections says there's something amiss. Also, I have seen chest infection listed as a side effect on some inhalers though I don't know about fostair. You could try calling the nurses at Asthma Uk, I have a few times and they always give good advice. Best of luck. PS, homeopathy has been proved ineffective by solid research including Cochrane reviews which check the quality of multiple studies and summarise results.
Hi bouris , I've had the same thing ,about 12-18 months I've had chest infections they go but come back I wake up short of breath coughing phlem its nasty I unerstand , its been worse since I broke my ankle badly I've been on strong painkillers I think its something to do with them , I stopped smoking when I turned 40 I'm 41 now its worrying isn't it ? My chest is always worse on a morning .
