I'm kind of fearful in taking this inhaler of all the bad reviews I've read. Would be great if anyone can post on their experience and opinion with this inhaler. Specially long term. ....thanks

Symbicort does work for me - but as part of a schedule. I have Spiriva each morning and have Ventolin as a reliever. I have one puff of Symbcort in the morning and one in the evening. I certainly notice the difference if I don't take it for a couple of days, especially on my peak flow. However, I was oput on it a year ago as a "Smart" inhaler and was told to take it as a reliever as well. That did not work for me so I went back to one puff twice a day and the old Ventolin. I hope that it does work out for you

I took symbicort for 4 years 10 puffs a day until it stopped being effective, it worked really well for me though until end of last year but my asthma has just got generally worse so I don't know if it was symbicorts fault.

it did give me shakes at first, and if I had a sore throat or anything it kinda hurt but yeah I think it's one of those things where it works for some people in different ways. It's not all bad though xx

I take symbicort 400/12. 2 puffs twice a day. It gives me the shakes at each dose. I find my peak flow remains between 380 and 200. I use ventolin As my reliever. If you do not mind shakes it is a better medication.

Thank you all for the reply and information. I'm still currently using Qvar and it's working alright so far from me. I ask my Allergist Doctor what inhaler is next if my Qvar don't work anymore. He prescribed me symbicort. He did give me a choice between Advair or Symbicort. So it's available if I want it. I have the symbicort 160/4.5 what is higher number I see like 400/12.2 ect....?????

Please keep your experience coming in with symbicort....Greatly Appreciated.

Paul

I developed adult onset asthma. Started on Symbicort 200/6 then progressed onto SMART regime which didn't stop exacerbations but they weren't as severe. However I'm now on 400/12 Symbicort 1puff am and 2puffs pm plus nebuliser. I have high sputum production which doesn't help. The beauty of this inhaler is that it doesn't rely on technique as much as the MDI's do so at least you get the dose most of the time, providing you aren't too breathless to suck it in.

As with all things yes it's got steroid in it, but as its being applied to the 'target organ' the dose is lower than you'd need orally. Rinsing your mouth is essential to avoid oral thrush. I've been on this 5years and it's simple, easy to use and generally effective. It gets my vote over the canister versions.
