Has anyone ever contracted the very nasty bacteria, Psudeomonas.

Whilst, vast majority are resistant to contracting this bacterial infection, those on long term oral steroids, will have had their immune system compromised, and susceptible to this bacteria. This is what happened to me almost 4 years ago. Once in your lungs, can't be eradicated. I've only had two flare ups of it, both requiring 10 days IV combination antibiotics in hospital. It's a very serious infection, with 15% fatality rate, so that's 2 of my 7 lives gone.

I've had episodes of infection with it & I had my inhaler changed as part of an overall plan to build up my resistance to infection (the consultant took me off seretide & on to symbicort). When pseudomons showed up on sputum samples they've given me various antibiotics one of which (I have doxycycline in my head but I've had so many I lose the plot a bit) has generally been quite successful for me.

Good luck with it. There is a very detailed messageboard discussion of it here:

Thanks for that link. When first diagnosed with it, April, 2012, was for 10 days, treated by GP as usual respiratory infection. With no inptovement, refered me to AAU, with covering letter. Takes about 60 hours to develop culture, so on third day had visitors, when suddenly, doctor a nurse came over to where I was sitting, bag of saline, and two different antibiotics injected into saline. When asked what was going on, told psudeomonas culture grown, and it can be very serious. Should have seen look on visitor faces.

I found this very interesting as recently I had these shown up in a sputum test. I had a scan to look for signs of bronchieestitis and see my consultant tomorrow to get an update. I wasn't really concerned until I read your post. ha x. See what he says tomorrow.

My understanding of pseudomonas (admittedly limited) is that it CAN be serious but more often than not is more of a nuisance. When my results showed it along with various other bugs the consultant certainly didn't panic & has prioritised tackling the aspergillus over & above anything else.

It can be eradicated (but can be tricky) & hopefully will get dealt with over time.
