Hi all, im a New member to The forum So Bear with me! My 10 year old has chronic brittle asthma which is poorly controlled. She has been in HDU several times the last two admissions were very frightening she arressted and to be intubated and put in an induced coma in intensive care it really was a heartbreaking and frightening experience. Megan is on theophylline, seretide 250 & montelukas 10mg. Over the last few months she has become very irrititable, angry and really flies off the handle at the slightest thing. I understand that she has been throungh two very traumatic experiences I just wanted to ask if any other parents had been through anything similar with their children and how they coped with the experience. She does have regular steroids I know this will not help and has affected her weight. Any advice much appreciated

Mood swings and Anger issues in my little girl.
Just a quick reply, I'm not a parent so not sure exactly. I know montelukast and pred can cause anger issues. Montelukast in particular is known for causing depression and behavioural issues and sometimes a switch to zariflukast helps if thats the problem.
It also would be good to ask for her to be reffered for councelling or talking therapy by the GP to help her process what happened!

Thanks Sophie, info re Montelukast really helpful. My daughter is now seeing a counsellor to talk things through hopefully this may help also seeing dietitian as she has put so much weight on due to pred and little exercise . It's so much for a 10yr old to manage. If you have any other advise that may help would love to hear from you or any other forum members. Thanks again
