Aerochamber

I'm having problems with it it's a standard plus, it looks unclean except it is clean cant make it look brand new again. It's got like a white cloud stain inside it maby I used too much fairy washing up liquid I try and aim for a few drops. I asked my pharmacist she couldn't help nor the doctor just asked me to buy a new one when this always happens to me when I get a new one.

Mine did the same thing, though I thought I was because I wasn't cleaning it enough!I think it can be wiped off though as when I wiped my findeer around the rim some of it came off. But I know it says not to rub it in the instructions.

I think it might be to do with a build up of stuff from the inhaler inside the aerochamer, any of the drug that you don't breathe out stays in the inhaler and sticks to the edges.

Sorry I can't be of much help, I was going to ask about it but then my inhaler was changed to symbicort so I no longer use a spacer.

Maybe just getting a new one would be easier?

Well the difficult thing about them is that it says use mild liquid detergent doesn't state any or how much to use lol. Aerochamber plus standard.

I might go back on symbicort but I was reading a statistics on symbicort apparently you get a good 44% of the aerosols getting in the lungs compared with doing it by mouth, so I really wanted to use the aerochamber because its probably like 60% getting into the lungs. It's just that I need to keep replacing my aerochamber because I think I keep damaging them when I see that stuff on the inside of them.

They should definately give more detailed instructions. I always used as little detergent as possible when cleaning mine.

Going back to clenil isn't an option for me right now, I need a combination inhaler. I guess it depends what you need. Maybe you should talk about it with your asthma nurse? Or give the AUK nurses a ring?

i have the same problem with my airochamber so i started to use a bottle brush and fairy liquid to clean mine and i leave it for 48 hours to air dry and i wash mine once a week and i find this helps to keep mine clean and looks like new

Hi Guys

I use a spacer as i am on Seretide and find that soacking mine in warm detol water for about 30 mins then rinsing with warm water works ok. Another idea that works well is to use an anti static cloth e.g Glasses cleaning cloth works too.

Well I'm on week 2 using the aerochamber my asthma has gone from 450 to almost 400 .

I feel outta breath. And feel bad might go back by using it by mouth it's annoying that it doesn't seem t o be working unless its in my head.j

Just a thought, have you ever heard of the vortex aerochamber thats out, a funky aliminium (cant spell it sorry) i have it and it doesnt collect just or any nasties and looks as good as new. I only use mine for emergencies now for if my neb machine breaks, but it is the best spacer i have ever had!! And you get it on presciption!!

the white film is the residue from the inhaler sticking to the sides. If they are washed very regularly and NOT rinsed or touched inside afterwards, it doesnt happen. I was told to use a good squirt of washing up liquid - it is this which stops the drug sticking to the inside of the aerochamber, and is why you shouldnt rinse it afterwards. Give it a good scrub inside, swish it about in the washing up water and leave to drip dry

Does anyone know how often spacers should be replaced if you use them every day? Mine still looks good and I've had it for two years.

i thought it was 6 months but i'm no expert as i've only started using a spacer for about the last month, it wasn't even prescribed i just decided to and chose the aerochamber. I have an appointment for an asthma check (and flu jab) on tuesday so i'm going to talk to the nurse about it then

Probably is 6 months then I would replace it around then anyway.
