Hi there
I have been taking inhalers for over 30 years and after a recent visit to an ENT consultant I have been given an aerochamber plus to use with my seretide inhaler. Is it normal to not taste or feel anything?
Yes I have one for seretide too. No taste and it helps seretide get to where it's needed I.e your lungs
Yes in my experience that is normal. The inhalers release the medication at a speed of 60mph, so what the aerochambers do is slows down the medication into the confined space of the aerochamber, meaning when you breathe in you get more medication into your lungs and less at the back of your throat. Its the speed and the medication hitting your throat which results in the feel and taste you experience, the aerochamber helps ease / prevent this.
Thanks Beth, I used to think the aerochamber/spacers were just for people who couldn't use their inhaler properly. It all makes more sense now of how beneficial they are in making sure more goes into our lungs. I have thrush/coating on my tongue & have done for years cos nobody really checked or asked me before. Fingers cross I will get used to using the aerochamber & all will be good 😊
I liked the aerochambers when I was using an evohlaer because I didn't have to take such a sharp inhalation which usually made me cough, and also if I was having trouble holding my breath or taking a deep breath I could use the aerochamber to take a number of smaller breathes but still know i was getting the medication.
Another advantage of an Aerochamber is that when you're breathing is shallow you can just gently breath in the drug over several small breaths rather than having to try to take one long deep breath and hold it for ages.
Yes and it stops you getting thrush
