My asthma is really bad at the moment and on steroids and neb amounts of reliever.I started Pyradoxine a strong Vit B6 off my doctor and lungs been really bad.Few months ago had a severe reaction to Bendraflumazide a diuretic for my MD and asthma really went severe again and had to go on steroids and neb amounts of reliever again. After taking the Pyradoxine this morning I started to investigate the two lots of tablets and Surprize surprize, they both contain Magnesium Stearate that can cause irritation to the lungs and mucus membraine if alergic to it so I have stopped the tablet today.Im in contact with my asthma team and will be going to see my doctor tomorrow and not after any medical advice at all.↲
Just got me wondering what medications can make asthma worse . Mine was a diuretic Bendroflusimide and a strong vit B6 Paradoxine. Anyone else had problems with Magnesium Stearate ?
Asthma seems to be such a toughie with so many other treatments. I have a long term Migraine problem and have been on prevention drugs for about 12 years now. Since being diagnosed with asthma (within the last 13 months) it appears my migraine drug Propanolol wasn't suitable for me so the doc changed me to Metoprolol Tartrate which clearly states on the box - 'Do not use this medicine if you have a history of wheezing or asthma'. All in all I'm sure I shouldn't be on this drug but what's the alternative when my migraines are so severe the symptoms are similar to that of having a stroke and regularly last for 3 days at least.
I think you will find that most tablets contain Magnesium stearate.
Just looked at a few of mine, prednisolone, uniphyllin, cetirizine, singulair, paracetamol, tramadol etc all contain it. It is a diluter or packs out the pill along side stuff like Lactose.
I don't think you can avoid it.
When i was 14 with v bad chest infection, i was given ibuprofene and had an awful asthma reaction to it. ended up in costa for the first time ever due to asthma, wasnt severe at all at that time....
Kate Moss,Thank you for your reply.I Ended up in A and E as asthma not good at all. Managed ask the doc about it also and said it was ok to take as in most meds like you said.Said it was just a fluke that got a nasty asthma flair up as started the tablet and could keep on them.Thank you for your reply xxx
